Got switched to a BiPAP and it pulses

Post by TravelerJohn » Thu Apr 24, 2014 11:59 am

I just got switched to a BiPAP from a CPAP that I was just getting used to. The FFM pulses, inflates and deflates against my face with each breath. Can't get to sleep. Is this something I will just have to get used to?

uh, What should the settings be, and what are they. In my case, the pulsing was because the pressure was set too low and the algorithm did the pulsing thing.

Did you have an overnite sleep study? Do you have a DME? Like uh, yoiu should call whomever is supposed to be helping you to set the machine properly.

It would be helpful if your equipment list was posted in text mode.
Your selection of humidifier is for an M series machine and you note a Respironics System one machine for your current BiPap.

Could you list your pressures for the CPAP you just stopped using as well as the current BiPap values just prescribed?
That would be helpful in figuring out what might be happening.

I don't know why my machine won't appear so I added it to the comments. I'm new and need to get this forum figured out. Thanks for your response.

I just tried my second night and failed. The pulsing of the mask against my face keeps me awake. I don't see anyway I can ever get used to it, unless I use drugs. I just got used to the CPAP when my sleep counselor at Kaiser switched me to a BiPap. The data showed I still had obstruction and was still snoring, although my partner says I had stopped with the CPAP. I believe the obstruction is my deviated septum, but I'm not an expert at this (yet).

So, I'm wondering at this point if the inflation-deflation pulsing is just how it works, or is there a way to fix it. I can't imagine what that would be. I'm hoping I can just go back to the CPAP, I loved the rest I was getting.

Any ideas? My pressure is set at 15.

Look on the bottom of the blower unit for a 3 digit model number..may have DS or REF in front of it.
If it is model 750...that link is broken and that's why it won't show up even though you select it.
If it is model 760...you chose the wrong machine in the equipment selection...the correct choice would be PR System One 60 series BiPap Auto.

The inflation/deflation thing may be a by product of your settings.
The whole idea with BiPap is to have a significant difference between inhale and exhale because that allows for higher pressures to be used more comfortably.

If your pressure is 15 and you are using bilevel mode...there's more to the settings than 15....there should be another number.
Do you know how to go into the clinical menu to see what your settings are? If not, you need to learn how. Not saying change anything but you need to understand how it works and what settings your are using.
See the video here. It's a generic PR S1 video because they are all the same in terms of how to get to the clinical menu.
Just scroll down a bit till you see the PR S1
http://www.cpaplibrary.com/machines.html

Or once we figure out exactly which model you are using you can request a pdf copy here
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual

Also...your machine offers BiFlex exhale relief....if you are using BiFlex you may need to alter the setting a bit to help with your problem.

So.....which model machine exactly?
What pressure settings exactly? Both inhale(IPAP) and exhale(EPAP).
Using BiFlex? If so, at what setting?
