Is the SD card always reading the CPAP machine?

Post by mon » Wed Apr 23, 2014 1:48 am

I am just wondering whether the SD card has to be set to take the data from a machine or whether if it is in place the card automatically collects the data?

I'm not sure what you mean by "set to take the data"...I put a fresh, empty, straight from the store SD card into my machine the other day since the original one stopped working, and the machine just started using it, writing to it. I didn't have to do anything with the new card before I used it (other than be sure that the write-lock wasn't on). In fact, even if you don't have a card in the machine, the machine collects the data internally, and will write that data to the SD card when you finally put it back in. You'll lose some detailed data (depending on how long the card was out), but almost all your data will be written to your card when you put it back in if you leave it out by accident some time. Pretty forgiving...after all some of us cpap users are getting on in years, and can't be relied on to remember everything, you know *smile*. Cuts you some slack.

Thank you. That answers my question. So if I take out the SD card and put it in a new machine, will the data off the old machine be kept on the SD card? I need to transfer the SD card to another CPAP the same model.

To be safe, you might want to put the old machine data on your computer.
I suspect they assume you get a new card with a new machine.

you will be better off using a "new unused" SD card
reason is each machine writes its serial # to the card and you may run into a conflict and have to erase the data to continue

This is true about the serial numbers.
Now the Respironics System One machines don't care if other serial numbers and other machine data is on the SD card. It separates them in different folders. I know for a fact that the PR S1 doesn't care. I had 4 different machines on one SD card and things worked fine.

I don't know about the S9 machines. Haven't had a chance to test out what would happen. I suppose one could try it to see what happens. If the S9 doesn't like the SD card, it isn't bashful about letting you know. Put the used SD card in the S9 and see what it says. If it doesn't like it you will get the invalid card error with the prompt to erase the card.
I would have a spare blank SD card on hand...just in case though.

I live on a remote island with a population of about 1600 people and there is no clinician. We have approximately 25 people in our support group which has only recently been formed. I raised the money through a community fund raiser, to provide our support group with a emergency ResMed S9 AutoSet CPAP machine so that if and when someones machine is out of order for what ever reason, there is one available that they can borrow until their's is fixed or replaced. This is why I am asking about the SD card. Is there a way I can set the machine to it's original state so that it doesn't hold the last users data?

Yep, easy to do.
There's a choice in the clinical menu to do just that.
Under configuration menu...Erase data. That will erase any and all past user data.
The other choice for "restore defaults"..I don't know if it erases all prior therapy data. Run hours for total life of the machine cannot be changed but it's easy to remove past user data.

I see now what you are wanting to do. I don't know if the loaner machine will accept a SD card from another machine or not. I don't know if the S9 will accept having 2 different sets of machine data on the SD card. All I know to offer is to say try it and see what happens.
I know that the PR S1 machines don't care because I did it but their machines are a LOT more forgiving than S9 machines are when it comes to what they expect to see on a SD card.

Someone here with 2 S9 machines care to experiment to see what happens? I only have 1 S9 now.

Thank you Pugsy. I appreciate your help. Another question for you if you don't mind, How do you change the temperature setting from fahrenheit to Celsius on the S9 please?

It's in the same configuration menu where the "Erase data" choice is offered and is the bottom line in the Configuration menu choices.
Highlight temperature units and push the round knob to get F highlighted and then turn the knob to change to C ..I think to the left but can't swear to it...once changed push the round knob again and go back to "Home".

Thanks once again Pugsy. Now I have found it, I don't know why I couldn't find it in the first place.
