Could my S9 be broken?

Post by wardmiller » Tue Apr 22, 2014 9:52 am

I've been using my ResMed S9 for about 18 months, every night for about 7 hours.

For the last year my AHI has averaged 3.26 and last 6 months 2.81, but it has bopped around with spikes of 3 and 4, 5 maybe a couple of times.

My Respiration rate has typically been around 42, with wide excursions to over 60 and below 20 during a night. Leaks have been around 1 to 4.

For the past week AHI has been below 1, leaks almost 0, and Respiration has not had the usual wide excursions and averaged around 30 with maximum 37. All of this is very unusual.

Last night AHI was all 0 and Leaks 0 on both ResScan and SpeepyHead.

I had to change my DME in Jamnuary and so far have just dealt with them over the phone at their headquarters, but they do have a nearby office I've never been to so I have no idea if they have any nearby personnel who know anything about the machine.

How can I verify the machine is working properly? This is my only machine.

Try re booting the unit by pulling out the power cord...wait 30 seconds and then re attach. Check the data over the next few days and see if it's back to normal.

You might want to wait longer than 30 seconds. There have been reports that it takes a lot longer for it to reset. Upwards of an hour.

I unplugged the machine from the wall outlet and waited several minutes, then plugged it in again.

The first night the AHI was 0.42 (with 3 events all night) and the Respiration Rate averaged about 26, with a couple spikes to 50.

Last night the AHI was 4.12 (with 5 OA and many Hypopnea) and the Respiration Rate averaged about 30, with many peaks between 34 and 42.

So, I guess the machine is working. I just wish there was some way it self-checked, like when you start your car, so the user would know everything was okay. For 18 months the respiration rate averaged quite high, now it is much lower. My cardiologist says the high rate was all bad data.

I just periodically unplug my machine and let it sit for awhile then plug it back up so it reboots, sort of like rebooting your computer.
