Rebuild my 2 ResMed S9s?

Post by ReallyRealReg'larGuy » Wed Oct 26, 2022 2:03 pm

One is from 2005, the other 2015.
I was thinking about having them both rebuilt by CPAP Repair (www.respshop.com).
Is this a smart move?
Anyone use these guys before?

It all depends on what they need . . .
(The machines and the shop)

It's unlikely they will repair them. From their website:
Since we send the machines to the manufacturers to be repaired, many are no longer being repaired due to age. Most manufacturers will repair CPAPs up to 5 years after the last production date for discontinued models.

My gut feeling is No! Discontinued and aged models.

You might inquire at https://acbio.com/cpap-repair/

Hey, they say they'll repair S9s.

I was told Medicare and my Part F will pay for repairs, how would this work?

Ask acbio. They must have experience with this.

Medicare and Plan F means a traditional medicare supplement and if Medicare will pay for something then the Plan F supplement will pay the 20% co pay.
Now Medicare may or may not pay for machine repair. It all depends on how much it is going to cost. Often Medicare will just say "get a new machine because the cost to repair is more than the machine is worth"....so you would need to check with Medicare first.

Pretty sure that Medicare won't just pay to rebuild a machine with lots of hours on it that is still working though....machine needs to be broken and not working.

You might want to check with Medicare first.

I think the S9 is a good machine and will work just as well as the AS10. I believe it has the same motor. It does not record info (as read by Oscar) about RERA's though. Perhaps the algorithm is different. Does anyone know? OP didn't say whether each S9 was working---presumably both not working. Perhaps parts from one could be used in the other to make one working machine.

The S9 has the same algorithm as the 10 and the 11 and that's the heart of the machine. The S9 is a good machine.

The standard line around here is; the S9, Air10 and now Air11 all use the same same algorithm. This seems to be based on anecdotal evidence of similar, observed performance between device lines.

This is speculation and not supported by any ResMed documentation.

Patent documentation demonstrates that there have been algorithm changes since the ResMed S9.

For example, ResMed Patent: (20180272088) METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPROVED FLOW LIMITATION DETECTION OF OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA. This was filed well after the release of the S9 and Air 10.

https://patentimages.storage.googleapis ... 2088A1.pdf

Given that Flow Limitation and their detection is a key component (if not the most significant) of the ResMed Algorithm, stating the S9, Air10 and Air11 all use the same algorithm is simply not true. It also makes sense that in the greater than 12 years of data collection and research, ResMed has made changes to their algorithm.

Having said that, the S9 is still a solid device.
