Flu and humidity?

Post by Pesser » Wed Apr 16, 2014 9:29 pm

I’ve got the flu. Nasal is fine but chest is congested. Is my normal humidity setting OK or should I lower it?

Experiment! Humidifier is just for comfort, not 'therapy' in itself, and many do find less of it causes less congestion, but chest congestion is more likely from your flu (has pneumonia been ruled out by your MD?), so you need to try different settings.

Most of the time chest type of congestion from cold or flu symptoms the doctors say...hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
I would increase the humidifier setting but I don't know how much of it will make it to the lungs in quantities to make an huge impact. I can't see increasing hurting a thing in the chest and it might help.
Now for nasal congestion the humidifier settings are more apt to impact nasal congestion sooner for a lot of people.
For me...my body likes a lot of added moisture but others don't.
It's something each person has to figure out for themselves as there is no hard fast rules or right or wrong settings.
