Advice on APAPs?

Post by gertrude-mcfuzz » Mon Jun 05, 2006 2:16 pm

Hi,

I've been a CPAP user for 6 years, but am new to this forum. I've been browsing here for a few week and have learned a lot. (thank you!)

I am ready for a new machine and mask setup. I would like an APAP, and have some questions.

Are there some important differences between the following 3? (I've done the comparison on cpap.com, but still have questions.)
- Goodknight 420E Auto CPAP
- REMstar Auto C-Flex CPAP
- Resmed S8 Vantage EPR Auto CPAP

Is the software on all of these equally good? Do they all have only one power cord for the cpap and humidifer together?

I don't think I would use the C-Flex or EPR options, because I think I'd use it on auto. Also, I don't need the ramp. The auto on/off would probably be nice. Do I care if it has a data card? Are any of them hard/expensive to use with a battery?

I plan to get a heated humidifier with my purchase. I can't tell if the size/weights are with or without the humidifer. Which one is the smallest/lightest with the humidifier attched?

Also, the lady from billmyinsurance.com said that the Swift might not work well with an APAP. Is that true? Seems like I've seen a few people on here who use the Swift with an APAP. I have seen mention that Breeze and Nasalaire probably wouldn't work well. My other mask consideration is the Comfort Lite 2, as I am currently using the original Comfort Lite. Would that have any problems?

Thanks so much!

On the Respironics machine C-Flex does work in Auto. On the Resmed machine EPR does not work on Auto, only straight CPAP.

I have never heard anyone on this forum report problems with the Swift and APAPs, first time I have ever heard it expressed.

Manufacturers have cautioned about the efficacy of small hose interfaces like the Headrest, etc on APAPs. Most folks have not reported problems though.

Respironics will not warranty the effectiveness of their interface on anything other than a Respironics device and one person (don't recall precisely who) did report a problem with their blower (non Respironics BiLevel????) and the CL2.

So strange I just saw this~ I have the s8 vantage which can switch from cpap to apap - I have the swift and have been using the cpap only as am getting ahi of less than 2 - so working well, but having major headaches (whole other issue)- so thought would try the apap I heard so much about last night - well - I NEVER had problems with the swift UNTIL last night using apap - anytime the pressure changed at all there were leaks. I had major leaks and was up all night - the numbers would rise when I was awake or asleep and that is when it did it the most - I sat there and had to use my hand to hold it against my nose for no leaks, and if I started falling asleep my hand would lose pressure and leak and I would wake up again - I am going back to cpap tonight as that is working better for me with these nasal pillows - so maybe with using apap, the different pressures aren't tolerated as well ~
