open invite for Sludge to PM me and we can work this out

Post by space45 » Sat Apr 12, 2014 3:41 pm

I have tried to see if I could PM Sludge for some time now and his contact info is missing. does that mean he set me to a foe?
wanted to talk off forum and see why the chip, like I said if I did not find any posts where he was nice and helpful I would not waste my time.

he does come across as a genuine nice and wonderful guy at times, I find it hard to connect all his posts to one guy. that is some wild mood swings or something, not sure whats up.

if he is as good and knowledgeable with PAP as it looks and sounds like he is I would love to work with him, if he can get over what ever it is he is mad at me about.

PM me or contact me and we will try and work this all out, if your willing. I do still believe your not all that bad a guy, maybe even one of the good guys. I would love to resolve this and get it behind us and move on and work to over coming sleep problem and helping others.

are you in?

look forward to hearing from you

working together to see what can be done to make things better for as many as possible
combining your talents with mine, you do really seem to know your stuff, I am new so it is hard to know for sure, but reading through your post you do come across as one that could be very helpful if he wanted and choose to be.

you say you know PAPs inside and out. you also seem to know lots about sleep problem and sleep in general. that could be very helpful in some of the projects that can be done. I am in no way saying I know every thing, I am saying if I wanted to I could know enough to do thing, but if you helped they could be done faster and better. and you may have some great ideas I could help make happen

I am open to anything the helps the sleep community of witch I am now one of find better solutions and make things better in any way possible. I want PEOPLE orientated solutions with out politics or other things interfering. there are ways to do thing that will allow us to do what we want. loop holes, also not every one with sleep problems live in the US, so lots can be helped more directly then others

do you want to help out at all or not? do you have anything you would like to see made or done. any ideas you have to make thing better in any way? I am open to any and all input

thanks for your reply to this post

Space, I think sludge has made it fairly clear that you rub him the wrong way and that he isn't interested in your invitation to collaborate.

Part of respecting him is respecting that decision. He knows how to contact you if he changes his mind. In the meantime, I would strongly recommend that you show him the courtesy of allowing him to continue participating here while ignoring you if he wishes without attempting to convince him otherwise or take your disagreement public.

Hey, I've been wrong before (not really, but it sounds good).

Anyway, so OK SS, you've been reading, want to enter new uncharted territory and save the CPAP Planet. Very ambitious.

However, before we get too far and end up with a situation like "Hey Sludge! We need a new CPAP Machine that does everything! Now that I've come up with the idea, why don't you design and build it!", let's see what you're working with.
SleepWrangler wrote:With the right harness it should be possible to collect some useful EEG data. Oppps. No, only four channels per board so you may have to stack them four deep. Once we all start to submit our EEG data into the giant open source database I assume Slu(d)ge will have to block out some time to help perform the analysis.
The new technology, if they expect prospective consumers to use it (which is going to be pretty important if they expect anybody to buy it) will not (or should not, anyway) analyze data in the traditional sense (i.e., in the case of sleep, 30 second epochs), but rather in big chunks (like 30 minutes to whole night). Stuff like CAP and spectrography can do this.

So here's your chore:

Everything you need to do to enter The New Age of Sleep Monitoring has recently been presented or can be uncovered with not a lot of effort. AAMOF, with Max's set up (although that part has not been in the news lately) we can do everything now them Polish guys won't be releasing till later this year.

Post an image of NA Data Analysis (yours)(or anybody's, doesn't matter) and how to do it so everyone can join in the Revolution.

Have fun!

Just to prove that it can be done, here's a visual of a person's sleep (Amy's, AAMOF, a lovely visitor who hasn't been here lately, tho), showing how one can get the "feel" for sleep (in this case, alpha intrusion):

and finally be able to identify SWJ and arousals:

first off thanks for reconsidering, I may look like not to bright a guy in writing, and some time in talking to, I go over info and other things that do not go over to well, my wife keep giving me crap about my tone, she does not hear words, she hears tone, go figure, I ask then why am I saying words if they do not matter? like I said I believe a am a bit autistic and can have problems with communicating to some. anyways thanks for this.
Sludge wrote:was not to try to impress everybody with his cleverness, gun collection and ability to take on an entire biker club and single-handedly send them scurrying in all directions in fear of their very lives.
was throwing out ideas, I would have been shocked if all the things I was throwing out would be new to the group. I was sure some of it was, been there done that. thing is I do not know what is till told.

LOL my collection is tiny compared to some, got some PMs and we talked guns, LOL wow there are some in this forum I could not come close to having the amount they have, generations of gun collecting. it was not bragging, like I said over info, then put other foot, as in more over into trying to get first foot out. I get going and well, things happen. sorry if you got the wrong idea.

I did not take the bikers on, I just did not let them extort from me, I stood up to them and thought I maybe reenacting Custer's Last Stand but I was NOT going to let them get away with it, the thing that save my ass we lying about telling my friends and the cops would be coming looking for me at his place, and the signals I was giving that that HUGH glass window of his was toast if he started anything, cops plus broken window plus blood all over, as in mine. the bikers are not stupid, I paid a fair price for the van, they got a fair deal. he just wanted to shake me down for more. some would call me stupid, in fact lots have. I just could not let them steel from me, and yes I was ready to fight and fight hard, they knew it and they respected it. that and I had MY arcade games in their clubhouse and the club. they would have lost the games, seeing as I was the only game supplier that would put them in gave me a edge as the other biker would have been pissed at him if he hurt me, so I did have a few things going for me. but it was not told as a brag, but telling you about getting into problems and getting out of it, I do not know it seemed relevant at the time, but was probably me doing the over info thing again.

I would like any help you are willing to give, and uncharted territory is where I love to be

that will be far from the case, I have a small CNC shop and a electronics lab, machine shop and welding and fabricating equipment, anodizing line, silk screening equipment, lots of computer software for CAD CAM, lots of high end stuff like solidworks 3D modeling. I also have designed electronic devices from the ground up, doing the schematic s to board layouts to programming the micro controller to design of case to making case to laying out the face plate to making the place plate. I did every thing including populating the boards. have programed micro controllers using assembly language, have written programs in higher level languages as well, PHP, C, C++, basic and others, so your worry of doing it all is not something you should worry about, all I was looking for was insight and information mostly, I can do the rest, if you want to do some then fine, but I would be bummed if you wanted to do it all, what fun would there be for me? I do hear you on the whole "I had the idea now you go do it", it is usually me doing to doing and other taking the credit as it was their idea. I have fumed more then one time over that. so I know exactly where your coming from, been there done that.

I agree and was why I was suggesting all this, there are lots of open source stuff out there for sleep and for EEG and other things we could incorporates into a new and improved PAP unit. with enough data input one may be able to tune the algorithms of his PAP to get the best results for sleep. maybe call it TPAP for tunable PAP. I would be very glad to work with you and do what I can to make this work, you can have the lead or I can do it if your not wanting to be in the lead of this project, I care not all I want is the best results we can get for the most people. well every one should see a improvement would be the goal. if you can write code and work on the EEG and other input stuff I can take care of hardware end, but if need be I can work on software as well, not my strongest thing as my dyslexia can make debugging a real pain, and writing as well, I can do it, but take more time then should.

thanks again
Stan

Stan, if I can intrude a bit? You need the equivalent of a CTO (Chief Technology Officer) for this endeavor. I wouldn't burden Sludge with coding unless he likes to do so as a hobby. That part of the project you can farm out to a any number of hobby technophiles. The real heavy lifting you couldn't possibly do yourself. I don't understand with any sense of confidence the nature of the research Sludge is teasing with his answer. Maybe research the key phrase "Stuff like CAP and spectrography can do this." It may be an expert joke like "You just have to unify the theory of gravity and quantum mechanics". I don't know. It should be interesting to find out.

now why would you go and say a thing like that? you have no idea what I can lift or not lift, not to be nasty but you may be surprised at what I can do. it may take awhile for me to do it, take some effort on my part to get up to speed, but to say I could not POSSIBLY do it, that hurt. I am not your average guy, in many ways. just because you have trouble understanding it does not mean I have troubles with it. not say I see all the details that Sludge sees, but I do see some of it, I am relying on him to help me understand the finer details. like I said I CAN do this on my own, but would love to have help. it will go faster and be better with his help and I may miss something with out Sludge help, but I could make some thing that is useable with out his help. I am just very glad he has agreed to help, faster and better result. that is all I care about on this project.

I am not mad, just stating your are assuming something that would be better not assumed.
SleepWrangler wrote:You need the equivalent of a CTO (Chief Technology Officer) for this endeavor.

I do value your input and yes CTO (Chief Technology Officer) would be what we need, do you have experience running a tech crew? I am somewhat of a lone wolf type guy and have not run any tech crews, so if your up to it and would like to be a part, would be glad to have you on board, but with volunteer groups, light handed directions would be best, I have quit jobs just because the boss did a power trip and thought he had me over a barrel. I said I am out of here and he was stuck with tons of tech work needing done and no one to do it, now who has the power,.. sorry going over board again. anyway I would welcome your help, but if your a alpha male that has to be top dog and micro manage and over lord thing, then I may pass on working with you. not saying your are. just letting every one know, I am no lap dog, I can and will bite when pushed. great work dog, love to work.

I think it's safe to assume that most of us out here haven't a clue to what you few men are referring. Why not take your discussion to the PM level?

If you think I assume too much then show me why I am wrong and entice me to change my assumptions. Don't want me patronizing you right? To me that would be worse because it means I've given up, as if you were just a boy-scout pretending to be an astronaut.

I'm fully engaged in recovering from the side effects of apnea and metabolic syndrome. It is as much as I choose to handle right now. There are many people in this forum with fantastic experience and intellect and it will take me time to learn from them. I consider this period of self evaluation and analysis a requirement until my treatment goes into cruise control (three to six months from diagnosis ... please experts let me have my delusions).

You have a really impressive design and fabrication stdio. Makes me envious! I'd be designing and building quad-copters till the cows came home. Anything I can offer you for your project is just a bonus and without stress or commitment of any kind.

Sludge gave you some direction. I'd love to hear the results of your research. It would be funny as hell if you devoured a ten year mission and came back having masterminded something amazing in a mere few months.

for sure no patronizing, so right on that point for sure.
SleepWrangler wrote:I'm fully engaged in recovering from the side effects of apnea and metabolic syndrome. It is as much as I choose to handle right now.
truth be told I should be doing the same if I had any sense. only 14 days on PAP, in some ways going great but in others I am back to my old patterns, I only sleep about 4 hours or so and wake up. I do have more energy and coming out of fog more, but I have always been lucky if I got 6 hours. 4 is very typical. not sure why. hope the sleep lab is able to tell me something.
SleepWrangler wrote:I'd be designing and building quad-copters till the cows came home. Anything I can offer you for your project is just a bonus and without stress or commitment of any kind.
I will be getting into quad copters and other things ASAP, will be printing parts and making CNC units for making them. part of the new product line and the testing of it, got to make something when testing them. what I am in the middle of doing is make a whole line of desktop machining machines. I am very excited about this. from routers tables to plasma unit to laser units to 3D printing units to water jet units to sinker EDMs to wire EDMs to sinker and wire ECMs. it will be quite the lineup. the idea is universal interchangeability as much as possible. so with the minimum of money you can have a bunch of different machines in your shop, or on your desk. want to specialize in smaller machines. the idea is with small cheap machines on your desk you will be able to machine the hardest of steels and alloys. I know sounds imposable, but it is true. anyway the speeds will suck, but for hobby guys and making prototypes it should be fast enough for most things. the more commercial guys can throw more money for more power and it will work faster. that is the plan anyways. I am looking forward to it.
SleepWrangler wrote:I'd love to hear the results of your research. It would be funny as hell if you devoured a ten year mission and came back having masterminded something amazing in a mere few months.

I plan on posting progress reports of how things go, as for your time frame, few months, that would be a miracle or a ton of luck. I may be good but not that good. more so with other work being done. I was thinking longer time frames, like years for some of it, but could have some basic usable things and results in that type of time frame. even if Sludge had every thing figured out and ready to roll it would take longer then that to gen code, test it debug it, retest it. this is a boatload of work. I am not or ever was saying it will be a cake walk. if we get lots of support from the other open source guys it will go much quicker. but I do not expect this to be a quick endeavor. but it will unfold gradually over time with improvements as time goes on. in hardware and software and firm ware. some parts will be quick others will take longer. will have to come up with some way to decide what get done first. I would love the EEG and sleep detector stuff done quickly, but will see.
devouring the info should not be a problem, will have to find out how much they have written about it, but designing and making everything would take more time and effort. who knows a fresh set of eyes just may stumble onto something that is the key. winning the lottery would be more likely I would guess.
