Phillips Respronics PR System one Question

Post by RichIam » Sat Mar 29, 2014 10:12 am

My Phillips System One machine is running in the A-Flex mode with the "Auto On" enabled, "Auto Off" disabled.
About 6 times a month when I first put my mask on it will start when I breathe, then shut down for 1 or 2 seconds and restart 2 or 3 times, then run normal for the rest of the night. My machine is 3 years old and I just started doing this.
Things I've tried: Switching masks; changing hose; Trying new humidifier tank.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I have never had that problem, but, I think my machine is just about to be 3 years old.

What happens if you manually start the machine?

What happens if you turn off "Auto Off"?

I'm going to try turning off "Auto On" and manually starting the machine although you loose the auto start after a power interruption ability.
The Auto Off is always off.

Sounds like an equipment malfunction on the breath measuring circuit or sensor.
Do you have a backup machine? If so, you might consider sending this one to the ACCBIO folks for repair. They do a good job and are quite reasonable in pricing. With the machine being 3 years old, all warranty time has expired.

I would not, under any circumstances, consider turning the Auto On function off just because of power glitches, etc. A momentary power fluctuation could turn your machine off and then it would stay off.

have you tried a different ac outlet
and checked the wire connections at the dc power adapter
make sure they are seated well
have been known to cause similar problems when loose

I've started having similar issues with my PRS1, also 3 years old. It turns itself on and off for no apparent reason. I don't have auto-off enabled. I recently changed outlets and so far so good. My humidifier isn't working, either. I got a new one but it seems to be an issue with the blower unit as the new humidifier didn't help. Time to fight with Crapria over the service.

I tried all the suggestions... Thanks
Finally ended up removing the cover and found a loose connector going from the PC board to below the blower unit.
I repair industrial electronics for a living so I wasn't too scared
So far so good.

I had same issue for about 1 yr. It seems tha problem is eliminated temporarily after removing machine cover and unplug the electrical connectors and reinsert again. But it will come back after a few weeks. Is this a fiwmware issue - does is programed to create this fault and could only clear by company?

This is probably a silly question but what is the purpose of those functions? Is it just convenience or is there some therapeutic value?

When I had my old machine Kaiser set it up to use auto on and off. I thought it was cool but that was about it. Now my System One rental has both those functions disabled (not with Kaiser anymore).

Thanks!

For me it is partially therapeutic and partially convenient. If there is a short power interruption, the machine will go off. With Auto On enabled, it will restart. I don't have Auto Off enabled but it would allow for just taking the mask off if you had to get up during the night and the machine would shut itself off.

The system will restart after a power loss as long as the power loss is less than a few minutes regardless of the auto on being turned on or not.
