Herbal Treatments for Apnea

Post by Amronjohnson » Tue Mar 18, 2014 2:31 pm

Has anyone heard of or successfully used something called "Sleep Apnea Relief"? Its an herbal product consisting of Lobella (a reparatory stimulant), Meadowsweet, Thyme, Chamomile and Cramp Bark. There's a bunch of info on the internet so it's probably a money making scam but I'm desperate enough to ask but not quite dumb enough to just use it.

Well, if you honestly think some herbs can hold her airway open all night and keep her O2 from falling, and you have lots of money to invest in such things...

Yes, we have heard about those teas and I remember the one you mentioned.
There's a reason you don't see it listed when we recommend things to try.
You are on the ASV model machine. That means problems with too many centrals and maybe some OSA thrown in the bag. The brain is not telling your body when to breathe like it should for you to have centrals.

I understand your need to want to try something "easier" but believe me...if those teas would work I wouldn't own 3 machines and I wouldn't be here trying to help people get adjusted to cpap therapy.

Maybe the teas help people sleep better and they assume it means that the sleep apnea is "cured"...I don't know but from a simply physiological stand point...I can't see how any natural chemical will hold the airway tissues open that want to flop closed and don't fix the imbalance in the brain so it does its job better of telling your body to breathe.

It's pretty pricey sleep aid just to help a person sleep and that would be the only thing I would consider it. I vote "scam".

Five cents and 100 online testimonials will buy you a dandelion. Stew it, drink it and tell yourself you're cured.

Oh c'mon Julie, don't be so cynical -- I'm sure every one of those 5-star rating posters had a sleep study to confirm their apnea was cured -- they all just forgot to mention it.

Except for this one guy who didn't need a sleep study when he abandoned his APAP, because he appealed to a higher authority:
I have said for a while now our Creator has created something natural for every ailment.
But I never considered sleep apnea as one. When I first saw it, I thought, yeah right,
take a pill and no more APAP. My next thought was, but I've got to try it. So I did, and it
really worked! I am sleeping better now than when I was using the machine. Once again
I tried to put God in a box. Once again He showed me He is bigger than my boxes.
*Amron, please don't feel offended by our cynicism, many of us including myself have felt desperate enough to at least wonder about stuff like that. PAP is not easy.

With 38 reviews and four out of five stars I do believe we have a product that raises above the placebo and shill effects. So it would seem.

I suspect it helps people to relax and sleep deeper, which may help a person to not wake up enough to remember bad sleep.

I personally thought I slept pretty well, just snored badly, and had some trips to the bathroom. I thought waking up 3-4 times a night was worse than years earlier, but not really that bad. I had my sleep study, and found that my ahi was 79. In other words, I was struggling to breath 79 times an hour! Yet, I thought I was sleeping fine!

I had a split night study, so my diagnosis phase was 2 hours and 20 minutes. I had 71 apneas, 127 apneas, and 26 RERAs, and I remember waking up only once. I thought I slept pretty darned good, way better than I expected since I usually wake up constantly when in a hotel room.

Also, when people sleep deeper, they tend to have more events (I never reached deep sleep or REM in my diagnosis phase), so somebody taking a supplement to help them relax and sleep deeper, may actually being have WORSE sleep apnea.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

now on my wish list - but - will read the reviews and consider the source of the reviews (e.g. "Amazon Verified Purchase") before I purchase. I will also be looking into the herbs used.

Also check WebMd for side effects of each "safe, natural" herb.

If you make a nice all natural tea from hemlock and belladonna your sleep apnea will also be permanently cured in one night.

Do they sell a bridge to go with it? Seriously if this worked well don't you think Medicare would have latched on to it rather than spending $6000 for a sleep study and $2000 for a machine.
