i had a sleep study done last night and 2 hours into it they woke me up and said i have osa and i had to wear a mask and try out the machine to get my sleep number set up . i was also told i will have a cpap delivered to my house in about a week . I was sent to the sleeplab by a new doctor that I just got on jan the 1st. I went to see him about a cold and my blood pressure was extremly high for no known reason. (somebody upstairs is looking out for me huh?) I am 35 years old and have a wife and 3 kids that I love dearly so I commited to making this work . Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how I can get used to wearing the mask ...And what do you do if you have a cold and your nose gets stopped up

thanks in advance Scott in Louisville KY

Start by getting a good mask. Resmed ultra mirage or activa . Maybe a swift or breeze also. Use a heated humidifier and when you have stuffiness turn it up as high as it will go. . Get the Aussie heated hose to prevent rainout. Get an autotitrating cpap such as the Puritan Bennett 420E with H20 intigrated humidifier or Resmed spirit with humidifier. The 420 is less expensive and the software is also. Read looots of posts and ask lots of questions. Do not go blindly to the DME or you will get robbed . But worse , you wont get a good machine. Just what has the most profit for him.
Be very suspicious if the DME just happens to be at the Dr. office when you get the Rx. Make sure it (the Rx) goes into your hands not the DMEs.
Buy at cpap.com . If you choose not to, shop around to many DMEs. Ask for bids on specific equipment. Print the price list from cpap.com . Take it with you. If cost is a concern you are probably better off at cpap.com even with insurance.

Cheers,

Chris
