Pilairo Q

Post by Hawthorne » Sat Nov 23, 2013 2:56 pm

I just got this mask yesterday. I really like the original Pilairo but wanted to have the new adjustable headgear as well and see how that worked.

I like both the headgear and the original strap, but I think the adjustable one will last longer. The Pilairo Q had the original head strap as well as the new adjustable headgear so I have a spare of the old head strap.

The Pilairo Q came with a different setup in the vent (where the CO2 escapes). It has a diffuser and a little white filter type thing that goes behind the diffuser (both go over the holes in the short hose). The short hose has the same holes in it as the original.

I tried the new one as suggested yesterday for a nap and woke up with a headache. Last night I used it without the filter and without the little diffuser. No headache! I didn't notice any significant difference in the noise level.

For me. I think the new setup does not allow enough CO2 to escape.

Anyone else using the Q find the same thing? It may be a very bad design.

I tried the Pilairo Q but didn't like the new headgear near as well as the original. Your comment about the diffuser preventing CO2 escape is very interesting. Since I never had a problem with any "noise" that may or may not be there, I took out the diffuser from the get-go. I'm glad I did now. It don't get any better than the Pilairo.

I too, have the Pilairo Q (to replace the original Pilairo which worked well for me) and had trouble from day one. I did not have the headaches but my right nostril stayed in agony -- unbelievable pain...and my AHI went up significantly!!! I spoke to my RT who said everything was the same and I should have any issues.

After a week I purchased (from our sponsor here) the ResMed Nuance Pro Gel and have not had any problems that our out of the norm.

I don't know what happened with the Q but I will not use it any longer...anyone want to make an offer on a slightly used one just PM me!!!
