New mask cushions? Plus Kid Update

Post by SleepyonMagnoliaSt » Sat Jul 20, 2013 12:28 am

How often do you need to order new ones? I ordered one for R today because hers is starting to get weird and is leaking more. In other news she's still doing GREAT with her machine! 10 therapy hours a night!!

Image

Her AHI has gone down since when I last posted and is now about 4.0 every night. She no longer is gasping and choking for air and all her wheezing issues and things are gone. I'm not sure but I think being on the CPAP is helping her asthma too, because she's breathing all the filtered air at night ?

Wow, if I remember correctly, the last pic I saw, she had some serious purple under her eyes. She looks terrific!

She is too darn cute!
How much life people get from their cushions is really variable. Increasing leaks are usually the signal that it's time to replace the cushion. Throughout the forum there are discussions about things that affect cushion life including how often and how vigorously you wash the cushion and what you wash it in, etc...

There's lots of threads here that discuss this issue and various ways to "stretch the glide" like boiling, etc.
Skin oils break down the silicone and eventually not even washing or boiling will restore it to "as new". Increased leaks is a sure sign that old age is creeping up on your cushion. Medicare allows one new cushion a month and a lot of private insurers follow the Medicare guidelines, and others (like mine) say "as medically necessary". I order a new one every month and haven't been refused yet.

She looks great!

I know it does your heart good to see her sleeping so peacefully. Aside from the asthma, have you seen any difference in her daytime functioning?

It did for me, big time. I am not sure if it is because of the filtered air or the lack of acid reflux roughing up my throat, but it sure was a great side effect.

Sorry it took so long to reply! I'm getting ready for our local fair and I'm entering some sewn items so I've been busy with that.

Those dark circles that EVERYONE including doctors said were allergy related? Are GONE

Thanks for the info! We get two new ones a month. They went ahead and sent us two when I ordered a new one. Her's was getting TOO smooshy and she was leaking pretty bad. The Respiratory therapist says it's very common for them to need more because they are kids and sweat when they sleep which breaks them down

Definitely! She's not as prone to angry tears. I'm not sure how to explain that, but she'd get really frustrated with stuff and just break down sobbing. She doesn't do that as much. Still sometimes as I think it's her personality but definitely not as much.

She no longer has leg pains and her migraines are COMPLETELY gone. She's generally more happy and less cranky

Yes. For her it's like 100% better!! I'm hoping she'll be less likely to be sick in the winter now that she's sleeping and her immune system can work well
