Last night I woke up in severe panic. Happens every week. It's strange in that the second I am conscious I feel like I'm dying. No pain, just elevated heart rate and terrible fear.
This happened last night, but when I woke up I noticed a red light on my machine and when I toggled the wheel, there was a message that said "high pressure support". The machine would not let me turn it off, so I had to in plug it which then sounded an alarm.
Does anyone know what the high pressure alarm is indicative off? I tried looking at the manual but it's extremely vague.
Help, anyone?
High pressure alarm on my respironics ASV?
Re: High pressure alarm on my respironics ASV?
No idea about the meaning of the alarm.
Perhaps an outside chance the machine is malfunctioning? Do you have a backup machine you can compare?
I had a 'panic wake up' experience a couple of times with a used ASV that was causing my inhalation time to increase and exhalation time to decrease. It was constantly increasing the inhalation pressure rather slowly then overshooting my inhalation time by a few tenths of a second. It also seemed to juggle against my breathing occasionally. After 3 nights with that thing I was in a sleepy fog and realized the machine was probably malfunctioning because this had never happened before.
Ditched that used ASV that I had just bought last week for my tried and proven (also used} ASV and all was well again.

From the manual:
High Pressure Alarm:
High Pressure Alarm:
This may be caused by a malfunctioning device. Press the Alarm Silence/Indicator button to silence the alarm. Remove your mask Remove power from the device. Restore power. If the alarm continues, contact your home care provider for service.

Re: High pressure alarm on my respironics ASV?
I was able to find that this alarm can indicate a malfunctioning machine. I used it last night with no issue. I'd still love to know what caused it to come on the other night, though.
Re: High pressure alarm on my respironics ASV?
If those panic wakeups are caused by a defective ASV you might want to get a different machine.
My panic wake up was a shocker the likes of which I haven't experienced in decades. I'm not sure how many of those I could survive.
