I think the whole sleep industry in Ontario is definitely on the sleazy side of the medical profession, with most participants being arrogant, focussed totally on sales, and abetted by lazy insurance companies who willingly pay obscenely high prices because they just past the cost on to their clients. I think it would be really enlightening to see who owns the various sleep clinics and DMEs, and to look at which clinics patronize which DMEs.

Agreed. When I talked to my sleep doc about this, he seemed REALLY uncomfortable. I think this factored into his agreement to my request for an APAP by doing the additional paperwork for me to get an APAP from Ontario ADP.
I guess they don't teach ethics in medical school!
I'm workin' on it.

5aces, you're right. We have "health management" now. Not health care.

Montreal experience - it took me since September to finally get my machine which I used for the first time last night. First it was the wait for the sleep clinic (december)then the clinic had to send it to my doctor (February) then an appointment with the specialist (april)(7 minutes long) and the an appointment with the Vitalaire people Friday - finally. Monday I have to call the sleep clinic and make another appointment to have the machine checked and adjusted. It cost me $1918 - at least there was no tax and I can deduct it from my income tax. They did spend endless time going over how to clean and when.
I slept better last night but my skin is reacting so I started searching the net for solutions - I found some suggesting - going to cut up some tshirts in a few minutes. I felt much better waking up this morning. My nose wasn't as stuffed and my mouth didn't feel like a dried out sponge plus it is 8 pm and I am not lying on the couch dozing.. I have a full face mask but it doesn't quite fit but they told me not to worry!! Supposedly it adjusts for leaks.

blackspinner, welcome to the forum (from another nooby!)
I've been compliant for over 9 years. It's worth it! I feel very concerned if I can't use cpap and I've always found a way.
The people here are excellent and will have advice for anything you need answers on. Frankly usergroups and forums are the reason I'm compliant. I would have given up without good people's help years ago.
sleep well!

Thanks for the welcome.
What does everyone mean by "Compliant"!! I feel I should stand up and confess or something!!
The machine is helping even after 2 days. I am still tired but I am not a wreck and I didn't fall asleep tonite in front of the tv.
The piece of fabric helped keep my skin whole. I only needed to cover the top of the mask near my eyes so it was easier then I thought.
Next is to find out how to access that data. No way that I am paying $2000 for a piece of equipment I don't have full control over.
I am mourning the lap top I had been saving for.

compliant....others may have a better explanation. 9 years ago I was diagnosed as having OSA. Prescription is for cpap at a prescribed pressure. I'm compliant because I wear my cpap whenever I sleep. My new machine shows that I've worn it every day, and the total number of hours.
My sleep specialist might ask me to bring in my machine and show him that I use it regullarly. He did in fact ask that the first recall visit.
Hope this helps.
