Respironics Nuance Pro/Nuance Mask Review

Just had my first night with this mask: [img][/img] It is so new that I can't find it on the Respironics website.

(I have been using Swift FX for Her medium pillow for months. I love how minimalist the entire apparatus is. But I am really between the small and medium sizes, so I have been "gluing" the pillows to my nose with Mustache Sealer for Diving Masks. That works fine, but I am beginning to worry about putting that stuff in my nostrils every night, as I have no idea what is in it.)

Description: All straps are stretchy. The top strap and the straps from the gel-padded frame are adjustable. There are small, medium, and large pillows. The cones are surrounded by gel-filled pads that fit against and well beyond the outside of the nostrils. The cones that go into the nostrils are very short and very small. It has a light, stretchy, flexible hose.

1st night's sleep: About the same, except leaks were lower. All leaks were below 5 expect for a large leak when I was on my back and the back strap displaced. No change in awakenings. AHI consistent with my 1.somethings.

Cons: Nuance Pro is more bulky than the Swift FX. The Nuance Pro frame is stiff and protrudes on the sides of the pillows. I had to hang my nose further over the edge of the pillow (I am an almost-stomach sleeper). Back strap sits higher on the back of the head than the Swift FX and was easily displaced when I was briefly on my back when I was about to awaken. (I will try fiddling with straps to see if this can be improved.)

Pros: The nostril cones are so small I could not tell that I had anything in my nose. The gel pillows did not displace unless I yanked the whole mask, which I did not do during sleep. I could wrinkle my nose, scrunch my mouth, or make faces and the pillows did not leak. Much more forgiving fit. With the Swift FX, I must slide my face along the pillow and tighten up the Swift FX, as I usually have puffy eyes in spite of having the Swift FX mask properly loose. No puffy eyes or strap marks with the Nuance.

Conclusion: Mostly because I am between sizes with the Swift FX, this is a keeper. VERY comfortable, VERY stable. I rarely sleep on my back, but if I did I would be concerned about the placement of the back strap.

At my local DME: https://www.facebook.com/OxygenPlusInc.

There are links on a Google search to online Canada suppliers, but I haven't found any here. Maybe ask our host https://www.cpap.com/ or your supplier if they can get it?

Second night on Nuance Pro: 0 apneas/hypopneas (not unusual), AHI of .77 from phony CAs and OAs vs. average of 1.6. One leak, a record. 95% leaks 0.0 vs. my average of 3.6. I am hypersensitive to even small leaks, so the leak numbers are a big deal.

I think I would have slept the night through if my dog (see avatar) hadn't awakened me to go out. I am considering moving her out of my bedroom. Awakened naturally and refreshed after 9 hours of sleep, when I have been sleeping 10 to 11 hours of late.

It's a keeper. I think I have found my mask.

This looks tempting. {{So many masks, so little time.}}
This could become a real contender for the Swift FX.
Maybe the headgear is better for those of us with low ears.

At first glance, it sure looks like a Swift FX nasal system with the addition of some gel inserts where your cheeks contact the frame. I guess I'd have to try it to tell if there's a difference. Put me on the guinea pig list

Besides the frame, the pillows have gel inserts, are almost 1/4-inch thick, and extend further beyond the edges of the nostrils...those are the biggest differences. Both my phone and my camera need to be recharged. I will post a photo when one of them is back online.

What do the gel inserts feel like? Like a squishy 'gel' inside the silicone, or more like a solid, rubbery material?

I have had a really bad head/chest cold and have not been on the computer. I will take photos and post them soon.

I actually had to go and look at them. They are half and half. The layer closest to your nostrils is blue squishy gel. The layer furthest from your nostrils is solid and rubbery. The diameter is actually about the same as the Swift FX, but the Nuance feels like it sits further out.

As disturbed as my sleep has been with my head cold, I am still averaging only one leak a night. Amazing.

Check it out: http://cpap.1800cpap.com/nuance-nasal-p ... ochure.pdf

In the pictures, the fabric frame (Nuance) doesn't look like it attaches to the pillows the same as the gel frame (Nuance Pro).

The same company that has the brochure mentioned above is now taking pre-orders for these new masks:

Personally, I'll wait for cpap.com and get return insurance...I've found that works better for me.
