New issue

Post by Starscream » Fri Dec 06, 2013 8:16 am

Okay so I have been on cpap for 21 days tonight. I am doing well, ahi average is .5, leak is very low almost zero. My issue is that I take my mask off at night. Not accidently, I pull it off. But, I apparently do this when I am still asleep and not yet fully conscious because I do not remember it. This happens usually when my wife comes to bed, I go to bed before everyone else and generally before the sun sets. I'm thinking maybe a chip strap, so that it takes a bit of work to take it off, instead of just the one hand rip off?

Put some tape over the straps on your cheeks so that the momentary discomfort from the tape removal is annoying enough to wake you up enough so that you stop this unwanted behavior.
Just a couple of little short strips.
You can try a chin strap but those are super easy to remove and likely you will be removing it also. Tape is cheaper too.

Removing the mask without knowing it..or remembering it...very common and will usually reduce in frequency with time and reinforcement that you want to leave it on. The brain right now is trying to help you out with removing the alien stuck on your face because the brain doesn't know the alien is a good alien.

Makes sense. Duct tape or like scotch tape?

Duct tape would do the trick but man that stuff leaves a nasty residue. Might take your skin off too.
Scotch tape might come off too easily all by itself but could for sure be tried.
Have any of that blue painter's tape laying around? That sticks better, minimal residue.
Doesn't have to be huge strips....just something to anchor the straps just a little so that they don't come off so easily.

First aid tape sticks pretty good, so you shouldn't need much.
Nice and flexible.

Awesome, I have first aid tape at the house. I will roll with that tonight.

Hi,

That also can leave a lot of sticky stuff on your skin. The best tape that I have found for my face is 3M Micropore paper tape. You can get it in 2 inch wide rolls at Walgreens or CVS (and most other drug stores). It is a little expensive.

Last night I woke up and it was around my neck. I had a stuffy nose so I image that is why I did that.

Even masking tape should work in a pinch.
