Re: Best Christmas in a decade!
Started cpap this month with 100% compliance in the last 2 weeks. For the first time in many years I feel actually awake and human, happy again! Hi, Guess what? Since you are only 2 weeks in, I can assure you that it only gets better. Each year since starting CPAP has been the best year of my life....

Re: New leak problems
I have recently lost 9 kg and have found I am now waking up with a dry mouth a few times during the night, thinking I might be leaking from my mouth due to my high pressure of 19. I am looking at ways to fix this and am wondering if taping my mouth is ok or should I order a full face mask? Hi, Dry ...

Re: Uggh - Is this is how it is supposed to feel?
On a positive note, hubby says I have slept, without moving and snoring (of which, I keep saying that I don't snore) the best I have in years, and really, I feel like I have slept. Not that I feel 'better', but I do feel as if I have SLEPT. Hi, This is a really good sign. This indicates that if you...

Re: Titration Study
I assumed I had a simple obstructive apnea and a CPAP would take care of it. Hi, Sometimes, our bodies just don't want to take the simple path. My first titration study went very badly. I was having events all the way up to the max pressure, and I couldn't exhale against pressure. I thought I was d...

Re: If you just lost a bunch of weight
Funny thing, my apnea manifested during the time I was losing 180 pounds. Hi, Same here…when I lost weight, my sleep disorder got worse. I still proudly use my CPAP machine, now weighing 165 lbs and having just ran a 3 hour 44 minute marathon at age 51. If it is boot camp that he wants, then let's ...

Re: Plateaued at about 10AHI
How about all you, my fellow apneacs, what would you try next to get our elusive good nights sleep? Hi, The key number that I see is that your pressure is averaging 5, but your 95% number is 11. That means that when you have an event, the machine has to ramp up by 6 cm. That simply takes too long, ...

Re: Trouble figuring things out
Hi, Yes, please switch back for a few nights and see if things improve. If they do, then you have something to follow up on. If not, then it is your body messing with you. One thing that can happen is that once you get adapted to CPAP and sleeping better, your body starts to relax more. Being more r...

Re: Why do you use CPAP?
Hi, I use CPAP so I can sleep. Without it, I am disabled. No sleep means not driving and not able to work. Not able to work means no money. The health benefits, longer life, weight loss, high energy levels are all bonus features, but the core reason is to be able to sleep so I am not disabled. -john-

Re: Anyone with Sleep Paralisys (cpap/not)
Hi, I have had exactly one since I started on CPAP. It was the classic where I woke up with a grey space alien at the side of my bed. I knew it wasn't real. The alien got bored and faded out as the paralysis started to wear off. Since I enjoy reading about UFOs and have been a long time listener to ...

Re: Newbie with AHI Question - Sleepyhead Data
Pressure is 7 tp 15. Last night the Max was 13.4 Hi, What type of events are you having? Apnea events are generally the most harmful. Hypos might or might not be bad. Centrals are a wildcard--machines are not very good at telling if they are real or not. Leaks are the other big data item to look at...

Re: How to tell my new girlfriend of my CPAP
Im embaressed i have to sleep with the aid of a machine. Hi, I am more worried about your attitude about CPAP than I would be about her perception. Why be embarrassed that there is a device that is essentially a miracle cure for an otherwise devastating disease? I think you are going to have to lea...

Re: Is dreaming a reliable gauge of sleep quality?
Given that home EEG monitors don't exist, is the gold standard for determining sleep quality just how you feel the next day? Hi, If you are having vivid dreams after starting on CPAP, that is a really good sign. That means that you are suddenly getting a lot more quality sleep and probably getting ...

Re: First night
Well last night was a success and a failure..... I was diagnosed two weeks ago and had a AHI of 35 and was put on a CPAP machine within two hours of my sleep test. After reading as much as I could here I was able to get the Resmed S9 autoset with humidifier. I went to bed last night around 9 and fe...

Re: First night with CPAP trial
I was given the CPAP machine for the clinic to determine what is the therapeutic pressure for me. Hi, See if you can get a real sleep study at a hospital or sleep center. Doing it with a CPAP machine gives only one channel of data. That doesn't give the professionals much information to work with. ...

Re: New issue
Awesome, I have first aid tape at the house. I will roll with that tonight. Hi, That also can leave a lot of sticky stuff on your skin. The best tape that I have found for my face is 3M Micropore paper tape. You can get it in 2 inch wide rolls at Walgreens or CVS (and most other drug stores). It is...
