Re: Newbie started strong . . . now it's all going to hell
Okay, "hell" is a strong word. But things are becoming pretty craptastic sleep-wise. When CPAP does not work well (becomes hard to use) it is more than frustrating, it indeed can be devastating. After 2 weeks of CPAP use, I thought I was getting in cruise control mode: sleeping about 7 hours a nigh...

Re: Link: Unvented Mask Improves Centrals/Periodic Breathing?
Hi All - I am under the care of one of the physicians who wrote those papers about using dead space to improce CO2 control, etc. to improve control of central apneas. I was extremely fortunate to find that paper. I was dealing with great stress at that time and it greatly affected how CPAP worked f...

Re: Link: Unvented Mask Improves Centrals/Periodic Breathing?
Agree about the dangers of unvented masks which are mostly designed for hospital use with a specific circuit and not with CPAP. My guess it that the normal use of unvented masks is to efficiently plumb in an O2 feed. If you add O2 pre-vent you would be adding say 3 liters per minute oxygen to a cir...

Re: Link: Unvented Mask Improves Centrals/Periodic Breathing?
-----eucapnic . . . roulette? Eucapnic means at normal/optimal CO2 levels and so it is never ever dangerous to be eucapnic. What is dangerous is to never ever treat the unstable breathing associated with sleep apnea whether through respiratory gain issues or the extra gain given to the respiratory ...

Re: Link: Unvented Mask Improves Centrals/Periodic Breathing?
Todzo, Again, what you are advocating is an experimental treatment and thanks to archangle's posts, I realize why I was very concerned you kept posting this advice to people. Just because a doctor is supervising it, doesn't mean it is going to be safe, particularly if it is untested long term. 49er...

Re: Link: Unvented Mask Improves Centrals/Periodic Breathing?
I think that they are talking about enhanced expiratory rebreathing space (EERS)[1]. The mask is unvented but a vent is provided further down the circuit maintaining a controlled amount of rebreathed air. Re: Why would pain med's drop AHI?
I think that pain is stressful and tends to raise the level of stress hormones – which: Causes inflammation (and so raises the tendency for obstruction to occur). Raises respiratory control system gain (and so raises the tendency for unstable breathing the excessive efforts of which can cause arousa...

Re: What is SleepyHead Worth?
One thing that kind of kept me back was the mention of PayPal. I do not like their strong arm and fear mongering tactics and am not alone in that (they have their hate sites on the web). The whole thing did result in my coming to terms with them. However I later found that this was not necessary. A...

Re: What is SleepyHead Worth?
I currently am using Encore Pro v2.12 in conjunction with my PR autoSV machine. I read that the newer commercial software is improved. I hope that is true. I'm waiting for the various temporary issues with SH v0.9.6 to get ironed out before I switch, however I can do most of what I need with Encore...

What is SleepyHead Worth?
The Windows hard drive on my desktop recently died. The backup I used to restore an image to an identical disk drive (after checking it's health) was some two or so years old. Lots of stuff I had not thought about in a while. In the process of purging old stuff from the drive I ran across my old ver...

Re: Still trying to tame centrals
Started APAP last December – initially numbers looked good and overall I am doing better than I was last year.. but the adjustment has not been easy and I am still struggling with finding the right combination of mask, pressure, equipment, and behavior to get really restful sleep. Generally getting...

Re: My CPAP educator
Welcome. What do you mean by CPAP "educator" ? A respiratory therapist, nurse, medical equipment supplier....? As far as I know there's no formal credential or title of "CPAP educator." In any case many of us have had to deal with unresponsive staff involved in our therapy. Probably most of us! Fol...
