OT -- Coffee: it is an awesome thing

Post by pootsie » Sun Jul 28, 2013 5:14 pm

According to a study performed by the Harvard School of Public Health and published this month in The World Journal of Biological Psychiatry, people who drink two to four cups of java each day are less likely to commit suicide than those who don’t drink coffee, drink decaf, or drink fewer than two cups each day.

What depressing news! I just gave up coffee for green tea. I think I'll kill myself.

I have been on CPAP for 3 weeks and already I find I do not crave coffee in the AM like I did. But I still love it! Dark Roast with milk or cream.

I love my coffee - have been drinking it for so long I never even notice its effects on alertness etc. I can work all night, have a(nother) cup of coffee when I get home, and drop right off to sleep. Albeit (Newbie on this board), an OSA-inflicted sleep. Love green tea and Earl Grey too!

I make a mean Bulletproof Coffee. It's great for weight loss or just to control your appetite. I make it every morning and it is a huge reason why I'm doing a great job losing weight.

Well, if I don't get my morning cup, I consider suicide, too!

Texas Coffee
1. Bring a pot of water to a boil.
2. Add one pound of coffee.
3. Boil for five minutes.
4. Drop in a horse shoe, if it sinks, add another pound of coffee and boil another five minutes.

P.S. Used to work nights, drank pots of coffee, went home and straight to bed. No problems sleeping.

Sleep Well,

Steve

Maybe not for Patagonian Chilean college students:
"Consumption of stimulant beverages, particularly energy drinks, is associated with increased odds of poor quality sleep. College students in Chile, and possibly other parts of South America, should be made aware of the impact caffeine beverage consumption has on sleep quality and patterns."--http://downloads.hindawi.com/journals/s ... 910104.pdf
If yer sleepin' great, drink away. If ya ain't, caffeine may be an insidious cause of some of those troubles.

In my opinion.

I've been drinking coffee since I was 6. I switched to a K-Cup brewer last year and LOVE it. I have my 2 MUGS (8 oz each) in the morning. I brew the 16oz into a travel mug so I can carry it to my desk and get online. I have another 8 oz in the afternoon. I frequently have another 8oz DECAF after dinner.

It was getting hard for me to make my coffee since I had to get up and walk to the kitchen counter, then back to my chair WITH the coffee. My husband and son moved my coffee setup to my dining room on a low table so that I can make my coffee from my wheelchair. Makes it easy for me to get my coffee without having to get out of my chair.

This picture shows my set up, but off to the side is a bookshelf with storage for all my K-Cup varieties. I can reach everything from my chair and refill my station as needed.

Yes, I do LOVE my coffee. Nice to know it's not that bad for me...

No question, caffeine is bad! I know, because if I drink 16 to 32 oz of either regular coffee or ice tea in the last couple of hours before going to bed I have to get up after about 4 to 6 hours to go pee! Has to be the caffeine, because most nights I don't drink coffee or tea and don't need to get up until morning! Sure seems like a strong correlation to me!
