Teeth problem?

Post by Deenie-deen » Sun Apr 14, 2013 6:51 pm

Hello,
I wear a nasal pillow mask. I wear it pretty loose. I woke up this morning and the molars on my right top felt numb and my bite didn't feel normal. This feeling went away in an hour or two. Anyone have this happen?

Thanks,
Deenie-deen

Haven't experienced it.

A scary thought (well it would be if it were happening NOW) is that numbness can be a sign of a serious problem.

But I'm going to guess that the strap or something else (even a fold in a sheet) pressed on the nerve and caused you that discomfort...

Never heard of that one.
Any chance of grinding teeth or clinching jaw during the night and/or maybe something going on with TMJ?

I have used nothing but nasal pillow mask for nearly 4 years now. Never once had that happen.

Well, I'm the queen of dental problems and have never experienced dental pain from the Swift FX pillows. However, the nasal mask would occasionally stab into my check, causing a bit of worry about my upper dental implants. In fact, my bruxism is so much better---not one chipped tooth since PAP. Just before PAP, almost two years ago, I chipped a crown off, puzzling the dentist since I was wearing the night guard. Your dentist can inspect your teeth for evidence of grinding.

I never though about a nerve.... This is the first time this has happened and I did wake up on that side. I bet the strap that goes across my cheek and upper most gum was pushing on a nerve and it caused the two teeth the feel funny.
Also I wanted to thank you. You mentioned that putting on your mask makes you feel relaxed. I thought that was a great way to think of it and I have trained myself to think mask - relax.

TMJ - did clench before I started cpap. I think I was fighting to breath. Jaw soreness was always a problem. Now I have not had 1 stress headache since I have been sleeping so well. My body is way more relaxed when I wake up. That has been a wonder for me. I had no idea that my apnea was the cause of neck, should and jaw pain leading to many headaches each week.

Well I seriously had not this experience with myself..
But here I have one question are you sure you have this problem due to mask..
Just try to remember about the past were you falling any problem before the mask..?
It might be possible your molars become weak and something like this ..
Make your step and prove yourself..

That's great to hear! Isn't it nice to have a relaxing event instead of a stressful event as you are going to sleep?

I have the problem with my teeth not matching upon taking my mask off often.
