iPad / iPhone App to record Sleep Data

Post by Magicdave » Sat Mar 16, 2013 12:22 pm

Just wondered if any iPad / iPhone owners use an App to record sleep data - in my case Hours used and AHI from my Resmed S9. I'm currently using a simple spreadsheet, but wondered if there was anything else out there. The ability to print out charts of data would be good.

I have looked and so far have found nothing that would allow you to use the data directly from the machine. As you indicated spreadsheet options exist if you manually enter the data. As you probably know Numbers by Apple does a good job of allowing you to represent the data in a number of different chart and graph formats.

I use My Medical for iPad to maintain much of my health information in an easily edited form. It allows you to keep databases of results that you can customize to suit your needs. You could easily create a Sleep Therapy section and input AHI and see that charted over time.

Hi Mark. Just downloaded My Medical - looks like this does exactly what I want. Can track blood pressure data too. Many thanks for the recommendation.

Feel free to PM if you want to chat more. I can give you my iMessage ID there. I have found the developer of My Medical to be quite good at answering questions and taking suggestions. In my opinion the information of this type would fall under their "Tests and Procedures" category and you would create a new custom type for this purpose.

I take care of my father in his 90s. It is great to have My Medical where I can have multiple patient profiles. Under his I store medications, procedures and hospitalization information and can answer questions for medical professionals easily.

I could have used this for the same thing. I cared for my Dad through the last stages of prostate cancer and organising his drugs was a nightmare.

Another option, though not free, is Handbase database program from DDH Software. This is a general DB program that you develop databases for yourself and for whatever purpose you want. They have a large selection of databases for download so one of those may work, or serve as a beginning point to develop your own.

Sorry to hear about your loss Dave. There is a sense of peace that comes from knowing we were there to help them. My mother died almost two years ago now. With all the feelings that I was faced with at that time, I had no guilt issues about wishing I had done more.

My mum died in 2008. Whilst caring for Dad in the last few years, and trying to work full time, I was undergoing extreme stress and feeling ill myself most of the time. I now realise that I was trying to cope with everything whilst suffering the effects of severe sleep apnea. Just wish I'd got it diagnosed years ago.

At least life is improving hugely now - CPAP now making me feel so much better, and my partner able to get a good nights sleep too.

Hi SLT Mark, I would love advice on how to use " My Medical" app to track AHI etc. I have the app " actually, both of them, the original and the app from the App Store (my mistake). I don't see anyway to do a database and would love to use it to for that.

I am assuming that you have the app from the App Store as it looks like it could be more flexible.

Thanks.

Don't wish to upstage anyone but I found using My Medical really easy. Just set up a new 'test' called Sleep Data (or whatever you want) and customise the fields to suit the data you want to monitor. I just have Hours and AHI. You can then add new daily data and see the results as numbers or a graph. The App also allows you to synchronise data between devices. So entering the data on your phone initially, it will then be accessible on any other device (IPad, MacBook) that also has the app installed. I'm really impressed with it.

I do like the part about being able to access the data both on my iPhone 4S & iPad 3.

But, I do have a Question.

Why is the app better than using the ResMed or Respironics software or even the SleepyHead software? Other than that software canNOT be accessed on your iPhone or iPad.

This app is in no way better. But if all you have is an iPhone, it is one way to store data and chart it. The app has many other desirable features. Basically we are setting up a customized data base and hand keying numbers.

In the below photo we have started the app with a new patient. Since the only portion of the app we will be using is Tests and Procedures, I have removed the other options.
Image

After selecting "Tests and Procedures" select "Add New Test".
Image

Under the Customize heading create a test called "Sleep Therapy" or your desired name. Add the fields of data you wish to track. In this case usage and AHI. Date and Note will be added for you.
Image

Then add your data you wish to track. Press the + (plus) key in the upper right of the screen to add another days data.
Image

Select the chart symbol at the top left of the entry screen to display the graph of the data
Image

Text based reporting is also available.

Thanks for the suggestion!

It's available for Android, too.
