SleepyHead vs. Resscan

Post by tearendt » Mon Aug 20, 2012 10:21 am

Hello all .... I'm new to CPAP (about 2.5 months) and with the help from this forum I think I am recieving good treatment from my equipment. I have been monitoring my progress daily at the machine and weekly via SleepyHead reports. I see that most of the S9 Autoset users rely on ResScan. The 3.7 software does not seem to be readily available anymore..... is SleepyHead 9.2 giving me basically the same information?
Thanks

SleepyHead will give you basically the same information but it is presented visually different.

ResScan 3.7 is way old version and actually an oddball way of naming...version 3.16 was the most recent version until the newly released 4.1 version. I think ResScan 3.7...should be thought of as 3.07..it is 3 years old.
There is a tutorial for 3.12 version but the basics are unchanged.

Take a look to see if it interests you.
If you want to try ResScan . You can fill in anything you want..they don't check..just be sure to check the "under doctors supervision" thing...it is free.

I think sleephead gives you the same information although i have not check for everything. Some of the numbers are reported slightly differently.
The think i like most about sleepyhead is it keeps track of you best trend and what settings were used during that trend. So if you are new and changing settings around it keeps track of your best nights sleep.

I submitted my first post in this forum last week asking help on choosing between Resmed S9 Autoset and Respironics System One Auto 560. Thanks for the responses to that post. I placed the order with my DME for a S9 Autoset and will be getting it this week. Now I'm looking for software.

SleepyHead vs. Rescan - which is the better software for S9? I learned from the forum that both are available for download free of charge.

Depends on which you prefer to use. Pros and Cons to both of them.
Try both and see which you like the best.
Main con against ResScan..slower than a 3 legged turtle. Painfully slow.
I can go to open ResScan...it takes its time opening...go open SleepyHead..download and get my reports and close it and go back to ResScan and it is just now opening to the point that I choose from the patient file so that I can wait longer to get that open and then download.....you get the idea..

Just go back up one post to Pugsys answer...she has a link in the bottom left corner of her signature for you to get the software.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Pugsy and others...... thanks for the software info. I was able to download both and now can track my sleep/apnea treatment progress. With the help of this forum I was able to upgrade my DME supplied S9 Elite to the Autoset and convince my sleep team that a range of pressures would work better for me than just the fixed 14. The software shows that thru most every night I have less events and need less pressure. As a new CPAP user I feel that I am getting good treatment since my AHI has gone from 66 (sleep study) to a fairly constant 2.5. I am in the category of people that has not felt the direct positive benefit yet.... as I think I am more tired during the day than before I knew I had severe sleep apnea. Thanks again for all the helpful information from members of this forum.
Tim

IMO, SleepyHead has lots of problems in its software, and statistical calculations. So users of Resmed's products are much better off using ResScan.

Here is the last problem that I have encountered:

A poster's SH data:
Image

There is something strange with the above SH respiration data:

(all at 95% and both on SH)

Name......Minute Ventilation.....Tidal Volume...Respiration Rate
.................L/Min.......................ML..........Cycles/Min
...........................................................SH.....Calculaterd
Poster..........7.75.......................820.........16.......9.4
Avi..............9.90.......................500.........23......19.8

Is it possible that the poster takes only 9 gulps of air per minute?

I have divided the 95% Minute Ventilation by the 95% Tidal Volume.

The poster has zeros for Leaks, in SH, over several days.

I suspect that SH, by error, includes the Leaks with the Tidal Volume.

If we reduce 400 MilliLiter from the poster's Tidal Volume
of 820 MilliLiter. Then the poster's Respiration per Minute would
be around 18, and the Leak per Minute would be around
400 MilliLiter x 18 = 7.2 Liter/Min. Which makes sense.

My (Avi) SH data:

Another problem in SH is that the Pressure (especially in APAP) does not show
the 95% Pressure, like this, which could help in titration:

SH, instead, shows these confusing pressures graphs:
{notice the Skew (dis-synchronization) beteen the 2 pressure graphs}
