Windows 8 and Software

Post by deerhound » Sat Oct 13, 2012 8:36 am

I have been playing around with 64 bit Windows 8 RTM operating systems. Good news for all if you get new computers using Windows 8. Sleepyhead and Rescan 4.1 both install and run with no problems. EncoreBasic will not install on Windows 8. A message pops up that says the installer could not find Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 and terminates the installation. There is a workaround to use EncoreBasic on Windows 8. Just like EncoreViewer, if you install it on a computer running Windows 7, you can copy the entire Respironics folder from C:/Program Files (x86)/Respironics to your new computer. Find the EncoreBasic application file and make a shortcut to your desktop. Click on this file and the program seem to run without any hitches. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it even reads the old smart cards for my M series and Legacy AutoBipaps through my Mako Infineer DT3500 smartcard reader just fine. Sure is nice to not have to have a 32 bit computer just to read my cards.

Here's a tip...
I have Win8 Ultimate and found that if you right click on the setup (installation) file one choice is to "Troubleshoot Compatibility". If you choose that I think the choices go back to Win 98. Keep trying til you find one that works. I had to use NT for an known XP program.

Thanks for sharing those two tips

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Just curious on something. I have Encore Basic installed on my work computer but never got around to installing it on my home computer. Can I do this same method mentioned above to retain ALL matching data imported or is that yet located in a different file somewhere?

Thanks.

I just tried the above method for moving EB to SD card and transferring it to a computer that didn't have EB installed.
My user profile did not make the move. So it appears that part of the software is not within EB folder.
I will poke around to see if I can find where that is stored and see if I can transfer it manually.

Thanks Pugsy, I already looked in user/My Documents and unlike Sleepyhead, it did not appear there.

Well no wonder I couldn't find it.
I will let you continue with the experiment. Please let me know how it works out.
I changed things to show all files/folders and I don't have what you have in that file path.....hmmmm.
Oh well, I will let you handle it.

You also have to select "Show hidden file, folders, & drives" under Folder Options via control panel.

That is the location created by EB when I ran it on my Windows 8 machine.

I know, I did and I don't see it. I have the main "User" folder but no other generic "user" sub folders within it.
The change to show hidden files/and folders did give me an additional folder but it wasn't anything related to Respironics.
I have been through every one of the folders and Respironics just isn't there.
I won't lose any sleep over it though. It isn't a critical issue that I do it.
I will let you handle the experiment.

Oh, the joys of MicroShaft windows and the "you don't need to know what's going on" mentality. Not as bad as the medical mafia, though.

Just a follow-up. The procedure described via my previous posts worked without a hitch and I was able to copy over from my work computer Encore Basic complete w/ data current & thanks to the OP again for the initial suggestion on doing this!

Just saw this thread when thinking about upgrading my Windows 7 system to Windows 8. Here's where the resscan data is for Windows 7:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\ResMed\ResScan3\Patients\<patient name>

The reason that I know this is that I have it specifically backed up *smile*.
