Detaching Philips System One humidifier

Post by Carmen » Thu May 08, 2014 8:33 am

I'm traveling again tomorrow and still have not ordered a travel CPAP, so I have to take my Philips Respironics System One machine along. I swear it's like lugging a concrete block. Anyway, I was looking at it and figured it would take a lot less space if I removed the humidifier. I'm going to the south, so it will be plenty humid anyway and without the humidifier, I can probably cram the CPAP into my carry on bag. There is no obvious way to detach the humidifier--at least not to my not-very-mechanical mind--and googling led me to a lot of instructions on how to remove the water chamber. Can anyone direct me to instructions for removing the humidifier?

First thing I'm doing when I get back is to order a travel CPAP.

Watch the video. It shows how to detach. Easy once you see where the release tab is.

You have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the PR S1 video option.

First, remove the water tank.
Now, on the bottom right edge of the humidifier is a lever. Pull it outward and the humidifier will release.

Your machine should have come with a cover plate to cover the right side of the machine when the humidifier is not in use. Keeps dust out.

Just a note on Janknitz post...the new 60 series machines do not come with the cover anymore. The older units did and some of the AVAPs and ASV do but the regular cpap and bipap units dont have the cover anymore. Dont want you to spend a lot of time or worry looking for something you may not have. If yours does have one it is usually placed in the side pocket of your travel case.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone, I got it disconnected and the machine fits into my luggage now. I swear sometimes that machine is like a security blanket.
