Re: Anesthesia for cpap user?

For my upcoming surgery, they just told me to bring my mask and they'd take care of the rest, so presumably I'll be hooked up during recovery.

Re: Can I be reconditioned to sleep on my back?

I've always been a side sleeper, too, and figured I'd suddenly be able to sleep on my back when I started CPAP. What happened was that I'd always gag when I tried it--I needed drastically higher pressure settings for back sleeping and my machine just wasn't adjusting quickly enough. Now, even though...

Re: Review - Pad a Cheek - Mask Liners

Just ordered a pair to deal with my cheek dents shredding pillowcases. Wish I'd seen this post sooner.

My mask is eating my pillowcase

An unexpected result of using a CPAP is that my pillowcases are disintegrating left and right. It seems like every other week, I've ripped another pillowcase. It's definitely me and not just that we have old pillowcases because my husband's pillowcases are never ripped. I have fairly lightweight hea...

Re: Slept through the night for the first time!

Awesome! I hope to have that someday. I was rather pleased that I slept 4.7 hours straight last night. I rarely get over 4 hours in one stretch. My highest with apap is 5 hours. The night before, I slept a total of 8 hours with the apap and another hour and a half without it. According to my machin...

Slept through the night for the first time!

I went to bed last night and woke up this morning. This may not seem like a big deal except it's the first time I've slept through the night since about 1962. It's been a little over six months since I started on CPAP and I am loving it.

Re: Need to get rid of icky smell

Since you are in a hotel, many of these suggestions are good, but may not work in your situation. If there is a way to open a window, place your machine near the open window and let it run while you are out. The fresh air may reduce the smell . That may be what I go with--I really don't want to be ...

Need to get rid of icky smell

I'm on vacation. On my way here, I crashed in a "pet friendly" Comfort Inn. The room smelled like a wet dog but exhaustion took over and we stayed the night. Now that I'm in a nice, clean, non-smelly hotel room, my CPAP, I swear, still smells like a wet dog when I first turn it on. I've rinsed the c...

AHI of 0!

Usually my AHI is around 1, sometimes as low as 0.2, but when I pulled last night's data, I was rather surprised to find an AHI of 0! A few flow limitations, but they don't seem to count towards the AHI score.

Re: First night of CPAP: the noise factor

I found I got used to the sound quite quickly--I'll bet that in a week you won't even notice it. My husband does claim it's like sleeping with Darth Vader, but it doesn't keep him awake.

Re: OT (sorta'): Is Sugar Toxic on 60 Minutes Sunday

Whenever I've traveled outside of the US, it really hits me how sweet and mushy American food is. For instance, a complimentary hotel breakfast in the US is all bagels, doughnuts, sweetened cereal, etc. In Germany, it's meat, cheese, whole-grain bread, and even sliced raw veggies.

Re: Can I take a 1 hr nap without my CPAP?

I rarely nap, but when I do, I mask-up and do it right.<P> The exception? If I'm on a long, transcontinental flight (as a passenger), I'll permit myself a 5 or 10 minute dog nap, so long I'm sitting upright. Usually, I stay awake; however. It just registered with me that I'm planning to travel to J...

Re: Do I really need new mask cushion every month?

I'd prefer your problem to mine--my DME hasn't been able to come up with correct replacement nasal pillows for over three weeks now. The old ones have been going since November and getting floppy, so I'm using a set that's not quite the right size.

Wow, what a bad night of sleep

I thought I had finally solved my problems with waking at night, but last night I seemed to be up and down all night. It didn't hit me until I saw the flashing clock on the stove and checked my data this morning, that the power had flickered several times during the night--just enough to wake me up,...
