I am a new guy to the site. I have been using an older GoodKnight 420 CPAP machine for 2 years now.
Just got a brand new ResMed S8 Autoset II APAP machine. So far I like it a lot. I have been using it for 4 days and still getting used to it. Some questions for the experts:
1. In the Results menu I find only the data from the previous night. No history from the past few days. I have not plugged in the memory card yet, still waiting for the card reader and software. Should I leave the memory card in the S8 all the time??? Does the card store the history or does the S8 have the memory??
2. I ran my old CPAP at 9cm H2O all the time. I find that running in auto mode with min pressure at 4cm and max at 20 cm I get many episodes until I get up to around 7.8cm. Should I just set the min pressure at about 8cm????
3. On the new S8 is 9cm in CPAP mode and min 9cm, max 9cm, the same in auto mode??? My guess is yes.
Thanks,
Tom............

Re: Questions on new ResMed S8 Autoset II CPAP
Question
#1: You do not need to leave the card in your machine all the time. Put the card in the machine will say Card inserted and when it is done it will tell you to remove the card.
#2 I would start your min pressure at 8 or 9 and max maybe at 11 or 12. 4-20 is too much of a range. See how it goes at 8 to 12 for awhile and you can always adjust from there.
#3 Yes, but why would you want to set it while in auto mode from a min of 9 to a max of 9 when you can change it to straight cpap mode of 9?

I have the same unit. All data from previous night disappears into the memory bank after 12 noon, so if you want to read off the LCD, do so before noon. Keep the card out of the machine and just insert the card when you want to download the data. Also, you can download the data anytime, and I was told by fellow cpaper the S8 holds up to 5 days of detail stuff, so if you miss a couple of days before inserting card, nothing is 'lost'.
As far as apap range, my recommended pressure was also 9. I started at 4-20 range but in retrospect, after all I've learned here, the better starting point would have been 8-14, then slowly narrowing down after a week or two of use, eg 9-12 range. It won't hurt per se to do the 4-20 but reducing band lets the unit's algorithm work more efficiently.
Good luck

In CPAP mode, the minimum setting refers to where the ramp starts, if you use ramp.
Which GK420 did you have, 420E? 420S? 420G?

Hi Rosie,
#3 Just trying to figure out if the machine does anything different in CPAP vs APAP modes.

I have the 420G. It is a good machine. I liked it when I used to do a lot of traveling because it was small and easy to pack.ozij wrote:In CPAP mode, the minimum setting refers to where the ramp starts, if you use ramp.

Now it is my back-up unit.
