I started dreaming on my second night of cpap. It had been years of no dreams for me. At least none that I recalled. I never woke up with that "had a dream" sensation or memory. Of course in my initial sleep study I had 305 events in 3-1/2 hrs so there wasn't much time for dreaming, I guess. I only know that after 63 days of therapy I'm feeling pretty good and dreaming every night. I hope your therapy gets easier and you find the rest you need. Hang in there.

Pam

Of course you do. Most of the time people dream MORE on cpap because they finally get to the stage in sleep and don't have apneas to snap them out of it.

If you don't wake up then you won't remember them.

After starting cpap therapy... I started dreaming like there's no tomorrow... Had good and bad dreams. As previously stated you dream more during therapy because you are getting more rem sleep... that's the good sleep....

I posted the link to the article but it seems that vivid intense dreaming may be an indicator of REM sleep deprivation rather than a good nights sleep.

I've always had very vivid dreams... before CPAP and now on CPAP. Recently it was suggested to me that vivid dreams are a sign of depression. Anyone have comments on that? I never heard that before.

Dreaming a lot is not always a good thang...

Though my sleep is MUCH better on VPAP overall, I find that I am dreaming MUCH more. The problem is that on some nights, my REM activity is very high and the dreams are tiring me out mentally. They are vivid and long lasting, though "fair to good subject" dreams. But most nights dreaming time is near to normal.

So far, I don't know how to tone them down without taking a drug, so I live with it.

Yes, over-active REM dreaming can be a sign of depression, though not always. I am happy with no depression, with vivid and even lucid excessive dreaming.

I read somewhere that we can dream in the other sleep stages as well. Don't ask me to cite the source because I can't remember. I thought it was interesting but didn't bookmark it and if I don't bookmark something I am totally lost when it comes to recovering something.
Well, I just googled it and this wasn't where I read it but here's a mention.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep

http://www.world-of-lucid-dreaming.com/ ... sleep.html

http://www.dreamviews.com/content/sleep-stages-25/

Some sites mention 5 stages and some mention 4 stages of sleep. I think that now stages 3 and 4 are now combined.

They used to think that, but now they think you also dream during non-REM sleep.

"...a surprise discovery of the recent past: sleep studies have revealed that not only do we dream in REM sleep but during non-REM sleep, as well. And these two dream states may be fundamentally different, affecting us in different ways."

After I got on the hose, I didn't dream for a long time, either. In the past year, though, I've dreamed (or remembered dreaming) more. Prior to CPAP the dreams I had seemed to be repetitive, frequently involving swimming underwater and being unable to reach the surface, being trapped below ground, unable to reach the surface, being in a confined space, unable to get out. . . you see a pattern there?
