OA when partially awake normal?

Post by MatthewR » Wed Oct 03, 2012 11:48 am

I get a lot of OA events at the times when I am waking up or just putting the mask on. I just want to know if this is normal? Here's a screenshot, not the best night of sleep by the way. Thanks

Yes, it's normal and should be ignored unless you're doing something like not breathing for a really long time or very often.

Zoom in on the flow rate graph, or look at the minute vent.

Basically, when you're asleep, you breathe very regularly unless something's wrong. When you're awake, you breathe mug less regularly, and it fools the CPAP machine. For instance, if you swallow, clear your throat, or even think about something, you may hold your breath in ways that you won't do while asleep.
