Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

Following up on my earlier comments about initially feeling a 'lack of oxygen'. Both during my 2nd sleep lab and for the two nights I have since used cpap, I have not had the 'lack of oxygen' feeling. There are two 'before' and 'after' differences: i. I have stopped using the humidifier; and i. I ha...

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

Hose Buddy sounds very useful! Yet another accessory I was unaware of.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

Bon bon, no, I was unaware of cpap bedside holders, but thanks very much for the link because that looks like a wonderful solution!

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

There have been a lot of glitches over the past couple weeks (my MDs Rx [from sleep study #2] languished for a long time on someone's desk at the Med Equip Co; Med Equip Co sent me an SD chip with the wrong settings), but I now (finally!) have had two nights when I've slept at least 2-3 hrs at home ...

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

Here's an update.... It took awhile to get an app't with my sleep MD, but during the visit the MD said that the titration portion of my sleep study was 'not good', in that there was significant apnea even with cpap on. I'm not clear as to why I was prescribed a cpap after the 1st study (this summer)...

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

The latest DME suggestions didn't help.

Thanks, folks, for helping to put this into perspective for me. I've certainly learned a lot from this forum.

I'm trying to contact my sleep MD to make an app't (rescheduler has been out of office, and there's no backup, apparently).

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

Here's an update. I called my CPAP supplier today and explained that I'm having difficulty getting comfortable with the machine. The person I spoke with happens to be the boss of the tech who set me up with the machine. He suggested that I try meditation; that the shortness of breath could be due to...

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

robysue, thanks for the reply.

I'm clearly not doing a great job of articulating what I meant by 'success', but I don't want to waste folks' time by attempting to clarify further.

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

Pugsy -

There isn't much physical discomfort due to the mask itself. It is not overly tight-fitting. The discomfort seems to be entire the feeling of not getting enough oxygen.

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

Pugsy, my pressure setting is 5 CM H20, which I understand is a low setting. I don't believe that I am using the ramp feature, but I'm not positive. The unit is pre-programmed; I have not changed any settings. The problem that I'm having with this equipment is that it feels comfortable enough for ab...

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

A couple of you asked what I mean by 'success'.

In my mind, success does not translate to 'is using the machine (as prescribed)'.

In my mind mind, success is, "use of the CPAP machine significantly increases sleep quality'".

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

Pugsy, I updated my profile based on your advice, although I'm still not sure it's correct. My blower unit says "560P' on the sticker. The problem that I'm having with this equipment is that it feels comfortable enough for about 5 mins, but after another 5 mins I feel like I'm not getting enough oxy...

Re: Effectiveness of CPAP?

BlackSpinner, I updated my profile just now, although I'm having difficulty matching up the menu choices in the profile with my equipment. Here's what the label on my equipment says: Philips Respironics REMstar Auto A-Flex System One, REMstar Auto, DOM Humidifier: System One HT Humid, DOM The mask I...
