I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 5 years ago and have been using the same machine. Needless to say I need new straps and pads for the mask a and a new filter for the machine. I don't have a current prescription, therefor I can't order parts. I called a few sleep apnea doctors and they require 220 for first visit and then 120 for follow ups and that doesn't include the sleep study. Is there a cheaper way to get a diagnosis so I can order replacement parts? I'm worried my straps for the mask will break soon and I will die if I stop using the machine. Any info would be appreciated.

CPAP replacement parts with no health insurance
Re: CPAP replacement parts with no health insurance
I would go to an emergency room at a my city or county hospital and ask a physician there to write me an Rx for CPAP SUPPLY. Carry your CPAP and mask with you. Send a copy of the Rx to an Internet provider and order the parts.

Re: CPAP replacement parts with no health insurance
Any doctor..or..dentist can write the prescription. It does not need to be a sleep doctor.

Re: CPAP replacement parts with no health insurance
I have no insurance either but what I did was I went to my low cost clinic (20 dollars per visit) and told them I was sure I had symptoms of sleep apnea. I had her write me a referal and then she picked out a sleep center that accepts people without insurance. All I had to do was arrive to my 2 studies and they have payment plans to help you pay. If you have the same doctor from 5 yrs ago, you could see if they would write out a new Rx. I'm new to all of this but if you are due for a new sleep study (which isn't it like every 5 yrs or so?) then see if you can find one that accepts none insured patients and find out their payment plans before scheduling. Maybe since you've already been diagnosed a doctor will work with you and just write a new Rx for you. My doctor was willing to sign my Rx and give me a referal and it was the first time I went to her!
Re: CPAP replacement parts with no health insurance
Filters don't require a RX to purchase online. Check out EBay for filters and replacement mask parts.
Mask replacement parts do not require a RX either. This is how EBay sellers get past the RX requirement.....they piece out the masks. You can order filters and replacement parts from cpap.com our forum host if you want to.
The whole mask package does require a RX though but replacement parts don't. You can buy the replacement parts individually and put your mask together. I know it doesn't make sense but that is the way it is.
If you have a primary care doctor then he could write the RX...doesn't have to be a sleep doctor specialist.
Ebay often is a good way to build your own mask. Just depends on what mask you are using. Mostly it is the most commonly used masks. I have seen filters on EBay for most machines even the older machines at very reasonable prices (for cpap stuff anyway). I have used EBay for filters and some replacement parts.
Which mask do you use?
