Resmed Vista Mask and Respironics Simplicity

Post by Paul » Tue Jan 11, 2005 12:22 am

Some of you will remember that I am on a quest to find a mask that I like, that is comfortable and that is not bulky. I just tried 2 more - one I purchased and one my DME purchased.

The Simplicity was a piece of crap. I was completely impossible to get a seal. it leaked massively. The Vista was a little better but again seemed impossible to get a good seal. I worked all the possible angles for hours and still no seal.

They may work for someone else but they sure didn't for me. It is so disappointing to pay $90 only to have the mask not work. I feel like am flushing money down the toilet.

So for now it looks like I am stuck with the Activa. I don't like it because it is so bulky but it is the only mask I have tried that doesn't leak much.

Good luck to everyone finding a good mask.

Paul,

I don't recall, are you willing to try nasal pillows? If so try the Resmed Swift or the Puritan Bennett Breeze. The breeze can also be configuired with what they call the dream seal which is a small nasal mask on the end of the hose.

Here's the links:

I don't want to use pillows because without humidification the pillow systems are very harsh on the nose - air diffused through a mask doesn't really affect my nose much but blowing directly in the nose does.

Thanks for the suggestion though. I am just accepting that their is no perfect mask.

Paul,

Why not just add hummidity and use the pillows?

Humidification means anither piece of equipment to set up each day, anothe piece to clean and another piece to carry on trips.

I am trying to keep it simple. Although most people on here seem to use humidification I know other users like me who prefer not to.

Paul,

Not trying to talk you into a humidifier, but if you use a Remstar or Puritan Bennett 420x machine you ca get a "simple'' intergrated humidifier. If you travel the Puritan Bennett 420 with the integrated humidifier and the Swift NPs is as simple, small and light you can go. See below:

I second Wader's suggestion. I understand, Paul, about not wanting more to take apart and clean. Actually, months and months go by before I ever even rinse out (much less "clean") the integrated humidifier on my machine (different brand, but same kind of set up.) I simply use a funnel to add more water as needed - without ever taking the humidifier off. If you use distilled water, the water chamber stays quite clean and crystal clear.
