Hello all,
I'm curious for those whose CPAP machines have data capability: what is your AHI typically while you are receiving CPAP treatment? I'm curious what a normal range is for most people that gets them feeling good.
Thanks.
What's your AHI during CPAP treatment?
Re: What's your AHI during CPAP treatment?
Just looked at my data using ResScan for the first time the other day, and my statistical average for AHI is about 1.6. Less than 5 is considered normal according to my sleep doctor, and I noticed that my data varied quite a bit. I had highs of 3, and lows of less than 1. Last appointment, my doctor gave me similar graphs to those that I see on my computer using ResScan, and the AHI on that was about 1.5 or 1.6 as well...that was about a month ago. So I guess that the software that I'm using is pretty similar to what he's using.
Makes me feel better being able to look at my data occasionally, since my next appointment is about 7 months from now, and I hate to think of running open loop that long *smile*.
Feel fine with my sleeping, so I guess that 1.6 is fine *smile*.

i have bilevel (mixed apnea) machine- resmed s9---- i have not been able so far to tell if mine is data capable. it has a little 'chip' thing the tech put in- but i think it only records numbers of hours- for compliance to medicaid. i would realy like to know how i 'm doing. btw-- 4 some reason, last 2 nights 0 hours have been recorded! '
i am being switched to diff machine- i told them i have cheyne stokes breathing/heart failure and i bottom out- loooking 4 machine that will be breath by breath- respond acccordingly. they say may be a while for ins. to process.

That's a bit complicated, since AHI is sort of a general sum-up number, much contested by many members. Here's something I wrote awhile ago. I think it can be extrapolated to the S9 machine. The terminology may be a bit obtuse but the definitions are readily available on this site. Pugsy has much written about AHI numbers. Anyway, I think this link is a good place to start: viewtopic/t80393/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=79 ... p+#p725010

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: What's your AHI during CPAP treatment?
im usually under 1.5, and frequently under 1.0.
Even so, its controversial, but i have the humble opinion that while AHI is a good baseline idea of sleep events, a singular
bad sleep event can wreck a nights sleep for sensitive people--especially perhaps those who went undiagnosed for a long time
or have other medical issues.
What if you are at zero sleep events for six hours, and at 8 for the last hour and you average 1.5?
That last hour can make you pretty sick, especially when your 02 level drops. Oximetry is important to know too.

Re: What's your AHI during CPAP treatment?
My AHI is rarely over 1.0, usually <0.5. Events are usually only 10-12 seconds.
I don't feel great.
I had over 40 spontaneous arrousals per hour during my PSG. I still wake up a lot, and I still have desats.
I feel better than I did before cpap. Numbers ain't everything.

Re: What's your AHI during CPAP treatment?
I average right around 1.0 for a year, a month, a week, and usually most every day. My highest readings generally do not exceed 1.75 and the lowest are around 0.2.
................21+ years of restorative, apnea-free sleep.
