THANKS
Seeing no thankfulness thread yet, I decided to start one.
Then I realized how many things, big and small, there are for which to be grateful. So many, my heart overflows.
This forum and all the unselfish night owls here; all the young people at home and away,
--defending us and our loved ones. Boring weather, especially this year.
My sweet husband of 46 years, who re-seats my pillows without disturbing me, when the leak only awakens him.

I can't list all that I'm thankful for, just too much. Certainly for all you helpful people out there, that have helped me and so many others on this difficult path.

Re: THANKS
In another life time, Thanksgiving started on Tue. night.
Mom would bake a corn bread, in the iron skillet, for stuffing.
It needed to be a couple of days old to be just right.
When it was done, no amount of begging, would get you a piece.
Wed. night, she boiled up the neck, liver and gibblets from the bird.
When it was done, she created the stuffing. She chopped that neck meat and
liver up real fine. I can smell that mix of fresh chopped apple and onion coming out
of the kitchen. When it all came together in the bowl, wow.
She always saved a little chunk of that corn bread for me.....I loved it w/chocolate milk.
Thanksgiving morning, 5am. I would hear her get up. I always got up, too.
....to watch the stuffing of the bird and into the oven.
Then, slowly and methodically, she started all the other dishes.
She knew just what order to do them in so they would all come out at just the right time.
I just kind of hung around, keeping an eye on things.....bowls to "lick clean"..
you know what I mean.
Sometime around 11, my aunt/uncle/cousins would arrive.
My uncle and dad would settle in front of the tv for football.
My sister, me and the cousins would do whatever....I don't remember.
Around noon, the relish tray came out on the table.
The black olives, clery sticks w/peanut butter, baby sweet pickles were my favorite.
Finally would come the call to the table. We all scooted into our tiny, for eight people,
dining table. The feast was passed around. Turkey/dressing, mashed potatoes, candied yams,
green beans and the best gravy from those turkey "drippings". I always passed on the salad....
didn't want to waste any space on salad.
Throughout the dinner, all the times apart were caught up on, as a family.
After we had eaten as much as we could, we all sat in the living room.
Eventually, mom and my aunt would do the cleaning of the kitchen.
Everyone helped w/what they could. It always went fast with all the hands.
Then, we all went to BowlerO for bowling.
On the way home from bowling, my dad would stop at a new place called
McDonalds for a sack full of $0.15 hamburgers.
My mom would make coffee for the "grown ups" and the kids would have
Duffy's Blackcherry soda.
Those Thanksgivings are only in my mind now.
When I was living it, I didn't know that there was anything different......
always thought it would be this way.
Cherish the moments. Cherish your family and friends.
It's not always going to be that way.
I am so thankful that I lived those times.

I'm thankful for everyone on this forum. You have helped so many & I am but one of the many souls helped here. I'm thankful for the generosity of Johnny & Carolyn Goodman for hosting this site & for allowing us to help one another thru this wonderfully unique & open forum. I'm thankful for our young men & women serving our country in the armed forces. I'm thankful for so much I couldn't list it here. Lastly, I'm thankful that I got to spend another thanksgiving with my beloved mother-in-law & brother-in-law, both have been thru a rough year & I thank God daily that they are still with us.
Happy Thanksgiving !
Happy Thanksgiving !

Re: THANKS
I'm thankful for the ability to bring home whatever is left of a weekly paycheck that gets used and abused every time I see a new pretty pretty shiny bauble or therapy accessory...and for the family and friends (former by birth, latter by choice) who, although well aware of my questionable mental stability, still let me amuse my mental gremlins without getting the required signatures to put me away for life.
Amen.
Amen.
