Re: AMA says low glycemic best
I tried a low carb diet once for several weeks and began to suspect it was not a healthy diet and reverted back to a normal diet. low-carb diet increases in cortisol, a stress hormone, and a measure of inflammation called CRP, which can raise the risk of developing heart disease and diabetes. Proba...

Re: Any tips on alleviating nose tickling with FFM??
Mask liners help quite a bit. Make one from an old t shirt or get one like a padacheek (Google it). I've used one about a month and can't think of a single time I had to get up at night and fiddle with the mask either with itchiness or sweat induced leaks.

Re: young new user-wishes to hear tips from experts
Hi littlebean, The also recommend the mask liner. The mask on generally makes me sweat a bit and that seems to make all sorts of leaks. The little weird leaks blowing in my eye were causing quite a few wrestles with the mask in the middle of the night trying to get it to seal right. I got the http:/...

Re: Machine location?
My sleep tech recommended level with my head. I assume it generates a different pressure if it is above or below. Kind of like how a siphon works. I don't have the math/science to figure out how much of a difference it would make.

Re: Newbie getting aerophagia when using CPAP
I'll post what has worked for me, YMMV. My Auto CPAP was increased to a range of 10 to 16. The API was better but the areophagia changed from just annoying to very uncomfortable bloating. After a month on the new settings, the API (around 2.5) and 95 percentile pressure value (around 12.5) was good ...

Re: CPAP Therapy and Gastrointestinal Distress
Thanks for the replies. I used to have problems with reflux at night before CPAP, especially if I overate. I haven't noticed them since going on CPAP. I will ask my Dr about it at my next appointment.

CPAP Therapy and Gastrointestinal Distress
While my CPAP has helped a great deal, I do notice the way it affects my stomach. Along with the bloating, change in bowel habits, and a aerophagia, I also seem to be bothered by foods which have never bothered me before, such as beans (at least severely) and broccoli. One night after some broccoli ...

Re: Finally got my CPAP - lots of emotions going on
Welcome, It is rough, even as I began to feel less miserable, I was a bit depressed because I had to wear this stupid thing for the rest of my life. Its just natural and I think as you feel less miserable and more active the depression starts to ease. There are some times when you get frustrated. Th...

Re: Help! how can I get my sleep cycle back to normal
OMG, this is so close to what I've been experiencing too! I go to bed at 11ish, don the mask, fall asleep within 10 minutes, wake at 12:30 or 1am and whalla ready for work which isn't till many hours later.... I lay in bed trying for hours to get back to sleep, I've tried a warm shower, vacuuming a...

Re: F&P Icon Auto
I only have the Icon to compare. I am a software guy so I was able to build a version of Sleepyhead that at least somewhat supports the Icon. At least I was able to get my API data. I turned off the AutoSense because I suspected it was driving my AHI higher in my "wake up" time. I recorded 3 consecu...

Re: Quick question regarding SenceAwake
I have the ICON Auto too and this thread got me to go back and take a look. It turns out a lot of my apneas start occuring about an hour and a half before I get up, where I am usually dozing lightly and in and out of sleep. I turned off SenseAwake last night and had my 2nd best night ever, It may ha...

Re: CPAP makes no difference
I think everybody is a bit different. You may be fighting a huge sleep deficit. But man, what an instant improvement. I'd kill to get ranges like that. My first 6 weeks I went from an AHI of about 55 to around 28 and felt much better. A couple of more tweekings and I was around 7. I have an appointm...

Re: The "production" of getting ready for bed
I've joked with my wife about all the "gear" I have to put on and the order I put it on. Getting the humidity chamber ready, then reassembly the mask if I have taken it apart to clean it. I usually now wash my face at night because I feel the mask works better. Then I strap on a night time wrist bra...

Re: new, introducing myself
The Fisher and Paykey ICON has an AwakeSense feature that somehow figures out if you are awake and cuts the pressure.
If you go to the User Control Panel (right below the "Search Field") you can enter you equipment so everyone can see it.

Re: Introducing myself
Welcome aboard! It took me a while until I was sleeping through the night and then when I did, I didn't notice it for a while. I kind of woke up one day and said wow I didn't wake up last night. Then I woke up and remembered a dream that I had which I had not had in ages. Just keep at it and before...
