Re: IntelliPAP Plus and IntelliPAP Auto vs. PRS1 DS260S
Just to toss in, I have the intellipap as my main machine, and it is smaller than most, but still a bit bulky. It comes with a travel bag that's 10" x 6" x8" high, and it carries everything - the bipap, my humidity chamber, the power cord, hose and my Swift fx mask. But I've been on a few work road ...

Re: supplemental oxygen
Update - aah, that sweet, sweet oxygen! I saw my doc again last wednesday, and by then my O2 sats were pretty dismal , even on the bipap I was seeing occasional drops, though my AI was 0, and my HI was 3. But I did notice my breath volume was down from 2 months ago. His thinking is that this is reac...

Re: supplemental oxygen
Thanks Slinky, that's what I needed to know. He wasn't sure. I see him again on Wed, and we'll see. He has another patient who refurbs and sells various bits of medical equipment, so he'll have a nurse call him first. I checked around a bit today, and most places only want to rent the portables - I ...

Re: supplemental oxygen
Hi Tim, do you have any idea what facilities these research units are located at? I'm willing to travel anywhere in the midwest just to get this done at this point. And a refinement of my oxygen question to everyone, I did some reading and product searching on the web last night, and figured most of...

supplemental oxygen
Hi all, I'm still kicking, just haven't been on the forum much. I'm still fighting the tachycardia and the complications. My doctor believes its pulmonary hypertension, but we have not been able to yet find a scanner that my giant chest will fit into. Went to a cardiologist earlier in the week on re...

Re: New Lansinoh ?
FYI - when it was suggested to me for my nose bleed, I went to CVS pharmacy, and bought the store brand, which is just called 'lanolin cream". It's 100% medical grade "modified" lanolin, which usually means homogenized in some manner. So I'm sure most of the chain drug stores have their own version.

Re: DIY CPAP machine
What about re-engineering an existing machine? Take it apart and re-assemble it in a housing of your choice. I don't know how much waste space is in there, but by using the existing air pump and controller, you keep the noise level down and don't have to re-invent the electronics.

Re: Deionized water bad for you?
Not a problem. DI water has had the metal and salt ions removed through a resin filter process, where as distilled water has impurities removed by maintaining the water at its "pure" boiling point, and then collecting the water vapor. The need for distilled water is to prevent mineral buildup in you...

Full Face backup mask recommendations?
First of I'll apologize because I know this has been covered in different threads, but I'm really not up to searching for it right now. In still trying to determine the cause of my tachycardia, my doc has taken me off the one med I'm taking that does have that as a potential side effect. This is rea...

Re: Camping out with a CPAP in a tent or in a Car.
Thanks, that was really useful information as I am thinking about a single solution travel and power outage backup. But I'm extremely jealous!! I've wanted to take a trip like yours ever since reading Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley". Given it was California, you're lucky they didn't think it was ...

Re: Travel size machine recommendation
I'll also recommend the Devilbiss. That's the machine I have - I got it because its inexpensive and I was buying out of pocket. It comes with a travel case, and I had no problem fitting everything in it, after I opened the expansion zipper. I have had no experience with another machine, and would be...

Re: Grim first night
I have a pretty good underbite, but the chin strap worked for me - the deluxe one someone on here recommended to me. Don't worry about them - they don't clamp your mouth shut, its basically just an elastic band that you connect the ends together with velcro. Even with it on really tight (just to see...

Re: Oximetry - WHAT???!!
The big question was how long was your pulse at 250? a couple of seconds, probably a glitch. Pulse oximeters are very sensative to any sort of movement. If it lasted a few minutes, definitely something to pursue. Also what was going on when it happened? Was your pulse normal just before, and did it ...

Re: Knocking the machine off the night stand
I did it once by rolling over too vigorously, and the hose pulled the machine off. I took care of that with a longer hose. You may be able to bungee strap your machine to your night table, to keep it from moving - look for the straps that allow you to adjust the length. Or maybe some velcro tape on ...
