(Poll) How Many Hours Do You Sleep A Night?

Post by Kody » Tue Apr 17, 2012 10:57 pm

Noticed a big difference in the amount of sleep I get and my energy levels the next day. Even an extra hour seems to help dramatically. Usually get from 6 to 7, and anything over 7 I feel MUCH better.

I seem to sleep between 5 and 9 hours depending on what time I go to bed. I always pay for any sleep debt. I can really feel it in the afternoon if I only get 5hrs the night prior. The next night will most likely be 8-9 hours and I feel better.

I average about 7.8 hours of hose time, but only average about 6.1 hours of actual sleep.

After many years of putting it off I had septoplasty and turbinate reduction surgery last month--I can't believe what a difference that has made even after a week. And it keeps getting better.

Rarely sleep more than 2 or 3 hours before the mask wakes me up leaking. Can't ever go back to sleep. I know that's not enough sleep but I have tried every mask out there and they all bother me.I just do the best I can.
I have talked to my Dr., he says that he always gets up at 4 a.m. so maybe that's all the sleep that I need.

I do my best if I sleep from 8-11 hours, but I can't do that during the week since I get up to see my kids off to school. I cannot lay down and sleep before 11:30 - 12:30 (no matter what time I get up or what I did during the day) and get up at 6:45 during the week.

I see a marked difference on weekends and non-school days when I can sleep until 8:00 - 9:00. But until my kids are out of school, I feel an obligation to get up with them, so I lose sleep in that process.

Most nights from 7-8; once in a while I dip lower, but I try to get in a couple over 8 on the weekend.
Sure beats the 3-4 I was getting pre-CPAP.

I'm usually in bed for 7.5 but I probably sleep between 6-7.

Depends on whether it's a weekday (workday) or weekend. 6-7 hours on a weekday. Usually need to nap at least every other afternoon. Weekends -- usually 8-9 hours. Sometimes nap, sometimes not.

I asked my sleep doc about the need for a nap, and he said that he thought I wasn't getting enough sleep on weeknights, so wasn't worried about needing to nap (for an hour or so) later in the day.

My AHI is usually somewhere between 3 and 5 -- not the lowest I've ever seen on this board, but certainly within the range of acceptable, according to my doc.

I average 6 - 7 hours on my work days (Monday - Friday up @ 4 am) and average 8 - 9 hours on the weekend days (up @ 6 am). I used to not set an alarm on the weekend days, but I find that having a consistent wake up for the week days makes me want some sort of consistency for the weekend days as well. I know I should just sleep on the weekend days until I get up; setting an alarm seems to keep me from having that over-slept/groggy feeling.

7 is too little which means other days of 10+. I don't get anything done after the 10 hours days. Also he 10+ annoy the cat and I think that her sitting on my chest waiting for me to wake up while having the cpap blow in her face bothers her.

I agree. The 7-hour nights are my best ones.

My long term average now is UP to 5-6 hours most nights. Bedtime is typically between 1:45 and 3:00; wake up time is usually between 8:15 and 9:00. The alarm is now set to 8:15 and most days I get up without much trouble when it goes off. If bedtime gets pushed back from 3:00 and I don't have to be anywhere in the morning, I'll give myself the luxury of turning the alarm off and allowing myself to sleep to 9:00.

Since Jan 1, there have been a few nights with as much as 6.5 hours and there are still more nights that I'd like with TST < 5, but at least now almost all of those <5 nights are for reasons other than CPAP-induced insomnia. Last night is a good example: A dear cousin who has been going through some really rough times called long distance at around midnight. She has some really good news to share and we had great fun talking until about 4:30am and I got to bed by 4:40. And I had a subjectively great, but shortened night of sleep since I didn't allow myself to sleep past 9:00. And I was quite ready to get up at 9:00! I felt rested and even refreshed---in spite of still feeling under the weather from the nasty upper respiratory flu/cold I've had for the last week. I briefly woke up twice during the night, once to take the fleece robe off and once to deal with rearranging the bed pillows. The AHI was still a bit higher than normal (2.32), but as I said, the flu/cold is still around although its beginning to run its course and I'm feeling much more human than last weekend.

So I can't blame this pattern occasional delayed bedtimes on Kaa anymore. It's just a very old sleep pattern emerging.

Both before and after CPAP, nothing past 6-7 hours, except on a rare occasion if I'm particularly worn out from the day before (not from lack of sleep - more from working my ass off LOL).

Doesn't matter what time I go to bed, it's the same. With or without sleep meds. I don't believe I even paid back any sleep debt, except in the quality of the sleep I now get and don't wake up the entire night now.

Cheers,
xena

I need much less sleep with CPAP than without it, much less. Three hours of CPAP beats 12 hours without it. That being said I seem to feel like a normal human being with 7-8. I usually get 4-6 on the machine. I have at times hit 7-8 and hope to return to that someday.
