Both my husband and I are of German descent. What is Von Steuben Day ? Never heard of it.
Von Steuben Day is a holiday traditionally held on a weekend in mid-September (von Steuben was born September 17), celebrating the Prussian-born Baron Friedrich von Steuben, who arrived in the United States as a volunteer offering his services to General George Washington in the American Revolutionary War.

Btw I know what lgbt is. What is the q on the end? :?:
Queer. It's starting to turn into alphabet soup as various people want more and more unique labels to stick on themselves.
Actually, q is for questioning.

The Q can be for Queer, Questioning or both.

From Rainbow Welcome a fairly authoritative source, but also supported by many sites:

https://www.rainbowwelcome.org/faq#faq2
The “Q” can stand for Questioning and/or Queer:
  • Questioning refers to individuals who are unsure of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
  • Queer is an umbrella term encompassing a variety of sexual orientations and gender identities excluding heterosexuality. The term was originally used as a slur but has been reclaimed by younger generations to also refer to political ideologies not adhering to heteronormativity or a gender-binary.

I think it's pretty good that Pride gets a month. Sharks only get a week.

I am RELIEVED to be straight.
I am aware of how hard it is to be different.
I am different in enough ways to build character--it's not easy being green.

Oh, granny--too funny!
I wonder how often they find a pile of wire clothes hangers, left in protest.
Moreover, I wonder if anybody ever "gets" it.

Canadians are proud to celebrate their Independence Day. In the US that is now considered political by the D party. Redefining historical flags is apparently not political though.
Proud Americans are political.

Nope, my "Happy Canada Day" overrides any other day. """""HAPPY CANADA DAY"""""!!!!!
But I have a question... why does everyone have to have a parade to commemorate "their" day????? I am definitely not against anyone being LGBTQ, that is their choice, but I do disagree with having a "DAY" for it. How about a day for whatever your special ideals are. Like how about a "I like chocolate day"... I'm pretty sure that there are tons of folks that love chocolate, or how about "Beach" day, then everyone could take off work, school or whatever to go to the beach, or how about "Straight Day". Do you get my drift???? Do we need to celebrate everyone's way of life, I get it that times have changed and LGBTQ folks had to fight to be recognized and accepted by the rest of the world but why designate a day for it.???????”

There is a Pride Day because for generations people were (and are) condemned, made fun of, discriminated against and even harmed or killed simply because of whom they loved.

When was anyone denied a job because they like chocolate? Or beaten? Or ridiculed?

Pride Day tells the world “we are here. We like ourselves just the way we are. We will not hide to make you happy.”

Every few months I return to this site just hoping the haters and ridicules have changed. I guess not.
