Re: Mouth Breathers
I use a Fisher and Paykel flexi-fit 731 which fits down under my chin. It allows me to mouth breathe (although I find myself doing that less now) but my jaw can't slip down below the mask like it did with a different full face mask.

Doesn't make sense
The respiratory therapist at my DME checked my data on Tuesday, and I had an AHI of 9.5 and the graphs showed that whenever I am in REM I have a couplet or triplet of obstructive apneas. She said I should probably get switched to an autopap and would put a call in to my doctor. I couldn't get to the...

Re: Night 4 - Mask questions...
I've been CPAP for a whole week now, so I don't have a lot of experience. I started on a quattro but switched to Fisher and Paykel's flexi-fit 431. I haven't had any leak issues with it at all. The best aspect of that mask for me is that it fits under the chin, so if my mouth slacks at night it does...

Re: Sleep Study FINALLY approved
Glad to hear things are working out. It can be a real pain running interference between the doctor and the insurance company. Last fall our insurance company kept refusing to pay a bill for my husband's hospitalization, telling the hospital he didn't have coverage. I kept telling the hospital to res...

Whining paid off....
I went to the DME today because of a problem with my mask and dumped my frustration on the therapist. At least I warned her first that I was exhausted and apologized in advance! I told her I was having problems trusting the shop because they'd sent me home the first day knowing I had leak issues wit...

Re: 2nd night update
Oh Bons, I am sorry to hear that you had a bad night. Maybe you need a different mask? Can we return the original one and exchange it for a new one? This is all so new to me, I don't even know how to proceed. I'm planning on calling the sleep center on Tuesday and see what they say. I also have the...

Re: A little help.
Ask for a full face mask or for a hybrid (full face but with pillows instead of having your nose covered).

Re: Power outages
When you get your mask and first use it, you'll notice a good air flow out of some tiny holes in your mask (and if you are like most of us newbies you'll think that's a problem and panic....). Those vents are to let air out so that you can exhale and let the CO2 escape, and fresh air can come in. If...

Re: 2nd night update
Good for you! I'm jealous. Last night was my fifth night, and the first one that I've been tempted to throw the thing at the wall.. Somehow the seal popped out of my mask around 2 a.m. so I had to turn on the light and refit it into the slots, then I must have gotten twisted in the hose, because all...

Re: Day after my first night questions...
Many thanks everyone. I was wondering if the in/out when I breathe was supposed to happen with my mask, and now I know. This site rocks Pamela It does feel weird, though, doesn't it? I just started CPAP this week, and I've spent the last two nights with a FP431 full face mask. The mask itself stays...

Re: now i'm sick, what to do?
maybe i'll just drop by the DME place and request 2 more masks to try at home instead of having her fit me each time and try with the machine. i'll tell her i'm time strapped so i can't stay long. the mirage quattro, how much cushion does it have? what's the other ones you guys prefer? i have a big...

Re: OT: What does everybody do for a living?
I'm a pastor, currently serving two struggling churches that can't afford a pastor on their own. We're looking at ways to try to regenerate them both. In addition, because I have one kid in college and another who graduated a year ago but is still looking for decent employment (needing help with stu...

Re: Newbie question
I'm hoping that my eye gunk is just fall allergies kicking in. I talked to the DME therapist (the one I "worked" with yesterday is no better/worse than her partner who sold me the Quattro after I told her it leaked a lot during my titration and who told me to "go home and play with the straps"- sill...

Re: Newbie question
I asked if I should bring in my CPAP and she told me not to.... If I return the latest mask I will definitely bring the machine along.Tired Linda wrote:I may be reading this wrong, but she tried fitting you for a new mask without the pressure? If that's the case, I'd run screaming for a new DME.

Newbie question
Hi, I'm pretty new - just had my third night on CPAP. I have a remstar Pro C-flex + and I'm still working on finding the right mask. I'm a side-sleeping, mouth-breathing, hard-to-fit kind of girl. The first two nights I was on a quattro, but it would leak like crazy when my jaw slacked at night and ...
