Sudden drop in Vt and increase in pressure
In the last week I have noticed that my tidal volume has suddenly dropped from normally 420 mL to low 300s (though RR has remained constant at 15). At the same time my pressure has increase from normally 8-9 to 10-11. AHI has remained the same at about 0.1 or 0.2. I don't seem to be having a cold or...

Re: Surprise: not sleep apnea but arousal apnea
Jay, I ran with Zeo for about a week or so and it confirmed with a previous sleep study had also shown, namely, that I got little or no deep sleep (10 minutes or so) and about 1 1/2 to 2 hours of REM, which was OK, but the REM was totally fragmented. Lunestra helped a lot with getting me a full nigh...

Re: Pressure Pulse Events
If you can, get yourself an infrared video set-up and record a night's sleep. My experience is that my pressure pulse events usually match up to some kind of disturbance in body position that also means my sleep has been fragmented. With 200 pulses you are probably experiencing terrible sleep fragme...

Re: Is it time to give up on CPAP?
Before CPAP I had bad insomnia and after of course I still do. I could fall asleep but couldn't stay asleep. My doctor gave me ambien to help adjust to CPAP. Like you, I awoke after 3 hours. The I cut it in half and took the second half when I awoke. That got me maybe 5 or 6 hours or so. Still felt ...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Asthma
I also have asthma and use Advair in the morning and take a Singulair in the evening to help with congestion. I've been on CPAP for abut 2 1/2 months now and have had to make a couple of adjustments due to my asthma. First, I need to use the maximum exhilation relief pressure (autoflex = 3 on my mac...

Re: Sleep Study results-
What I noticed in your results is that during the first part of your study, the diagnostic part, you didn't have any REM sleep. Typically, it is during REM sleep that your obstructive apneas would be much more likely to occur. Part of the reason for that might have been that your sleep was so fragme...

Re: There is no escaping the mask
The only dreams I remembered from my first few weeks of CPAP were about my sleeping under CPAP. In each of these I dreamt that I had slept my required hours and was thus free to remove the mask. In the first of these I awoke with myself standing next to my bed having ripped the nasal pillows and chi...

Re: Surprise: not sleep apnea but arousal apnea
Someone asked me about the results of my sleep study, so here does. I've actually had two studies about 4 years apart. The first one I ignored, but by the time of the second I was a believer. Both studies showed an AHI of 7.0. And both studies showed that my desats never went below 90%. When I saw t...

Re: Surprise: not sleep apnea but arousal apnea
A couple of more responses about sleep drugs and stuff: Gabapentin: I had been taking gabapentin for many years before my most recent sleep study. It was initially given to me when I had a a pinched disk in my neck, but I quickly discovered that it helped me stay "asleep" during the night, without a...

Re: Surprise: not sleep apnea but arousal apnea
In response to some good questions: 1) How was this missed in the original sleep study? The short answer: people see what they expect to see and ignore what goes against their general experience. Longer answer: sleep techs and reviewing doctors are over-worked and over scheduled and often glance thr...

Surprise: not sleep apnea but arousal apnea
After about 1 month into my treatment, I was still feeling crappy even with sub 1.0 AHI numbers. So following some of the suggestions in this forum I got myself an infrared video camera, some infrared lights, and a bedside Zeo set-up to correlate with my SleepyHead waveforms and event reports. The r...

AHI not a measure of sleep quality
I'm still new to this, having been on CPAP for 40 nights now after 20 years of untreated and progressively worsening sleep apnea. Having switched from a nasal pillow to a nasal mask in the last 10 days. I've consistently gotten my "official" AHI readings under 1. Last night, for example, EncoreViewe...

Sleeping part of night without CPAP?
This is a question that's been bothering me since I've started CPAP (32 days ago). I've fallen into a pattern where I regularly wake up after 5 or so hours of sleep with CPAP. I attempt to get back to sleep with CPAP but typically give up after another hour. So here's the question: Should I disengag...

Disappointed with the limited reports generated by EncoreViewer software. Could someone send me a link for downloading Encore Pro 2? Thanks.
