New (to me) mask sealant and remedies for dry mouth.

Amazon has a number of products for scuba divers mask seal and also products for dry mouth. Even if you don't buy from them it will give you an idea of what is available. I might have read it here- scuba divers mask sealant can be used on CPAP masks to improve the seal and prevent leaks. I ordered s...

Even another idea to stop mask leakage

I might have gotten the idea from this forum. Use the stuff divers use to seal their scuba masks. I tried it last night. It's very sticky, but came right off the mask with a mask wipe. It also came off my face easily This is the best solution I've found though it's based on only one nights use. Try ...

Re: Doctor says. "Machine is overreacting"!!

Very interesting. It took me awhile to learn that there are two facets to getting good sleep while using CPAP. Your doctor gave you good sleep hygiene advice. Though the CPAP does help you sleep better by stopping the awakenings due to apnea events, it's no substitute for good sleep hygiene. We have...

Re: Is this normal?

Well, I'm glad you had five pretty good nights before a bad one. Yes, it's entirely normal, Annabelle. I'm glad you're posting on the forum. You've got a great little machine.
Keep us posted on how it's going.

Re: Help with humidifier.

I tried the Biotene gell last night and it worked pretty well. At The top of the page there is mention of a new product- Xylimelts Oral Adhering discs- they are available on Amazon and will be in Rire Aid stores in March.

Re: High pressure wears out mask cushion faster?

I think insurance companies will replace mask cushions once a month for a reason. I do find higher pressures make it harder to get a good seal and an AUTO, Bilevel, or ASV when the pressure gets high. With staight CPAP you adjust the mask once at your desired pressure and that's that. For what it's ...

Re: new machine for my wife

You didn't get a S9 escape, you got the Elite which I believe will serve her needs just fine. If that machine turns out not to work for her the doc can always write for a bilevel or auto.
Good luck,

Re: Modafinil, Stimulants and sleeping pill help

Mboy, what a mess. I had excessive daytime sleepiness treated with Provigil and Nuvigil which were somewhat helpful, I still got sleepy early in the evening and sometimes needed an afternoon nap. The drugs were not at all successful if taken later in the day. I have good luck with OTC herbal remedie...

Re: Moral Question

You bought two machines out of pocket saving the insurance company a lot of money Your two machines are getting old. I think the S8s are great machines, I certainly think you deserve to take advantage, not to mean unfair, of the insurance you pay premiums for medical supplies as well as other health...

Re: Newbie with questions

DHL, by all means go to another sleep lab. Many labs offer recliners to those who sleep that way. Just tell them ahead of time. Ask for the latest appointment available. If you're having complex and central apnea the doctor may want to try you on ASV. Try to wrangle a test with ASV if you can. You a...

Re: New user with questions

DME is Durable Medical Equipment- the folks you get your machine and supplies from. AHI is apnea/hypopnea index- the number of apnea and hypopnea incidents divided by the hours you sleep. Apnea is a total cessation of breathing, and hypopnea is decreased flow. Either can but don't necessarily lead t...
