Acceptable AHI?
I LPhad used an ASV for many years until mine started spitting foam dust (Respironics) and my then new sleep doc ordered a titration study rather than a diagnostic study which meant my insurance wouldn’t cover the new machine due to lack of diagnosis. Original diagnostic study wasn’t available. I bo...

Re: Cease CPAP Use Two Weeks before Sleep Study?
I have to have a new diagnostic study tonight via home study. My new doctor recommended going one night without my bipap before tonight’s test in case of residual splinting of my airway.

Re: [OT] Happy Pride Day
Nope, my "Happy Canada Day" overrides any other day. """""HAPPY CANADA DAY"""""!!!!! But I have a question... why does everyone have to have a parade to commemorate "their" day????? I am definitely not against anyone being LGBTQ, that is their choice, but I do disagree with having a "DAY" for it. H...

Re: First month on new ASV
I've used a full face mask most of the time I've been on an ASV, and do tend to breathe through my mouth, at least until I fall asleep.
But during the warmest months I use a nasal mask with no problem. No leaks, even at inhalation pressures over 20... and my AHI is lower with a nasal mask.

Re: Face mask????
"When I had my sleep test, they put a nasal pillow on me. I found that to work okay. I know I wouldn't like the mask that has the 2 nasal inserts." Okay, I'm confused. Nasal pillows ARE the masks that have the nasal "inserts" (actually they sit below the nostrils). Did they use a nasal PILLOW for yo...

Re: What do you do with your hose?
I'm an active sleeper so the hose used to get wrapped around my neck, or twisted under me, or I'd pull the ASV into the bed. Now I have a command strip hook on my wall above the bed, looped two cheap elastic hairbands together, and hang the hose through the lower hairband. Doesn't look so great but ...

Re: My machine is spitting out my filter
I cut a piece of plastic canvas (craft store) that extends to either side of the filter. Fastened it to the machine with two elastic hairbands that came from the dollar store (in a pack of six so if I get girly I can swap color combinations).

Re: Wearing/not wearing the mask for total sleep time?
It’s not a matter of getting quality of sleep. It is a matter of sleeping safely. When you are having apnea’s you are not getting oxygenated and your body is experiencing stress. Would you think it’s a good idea to hold your breath for several seconds many times an hour for twleve hours a day? Of co...

Re: Severity vs. Pressure Prescription
My AHI was 9 prior to treatment. Higher if I was on my back but usually I’m on my side. My epap averages at 14 and my pressure support about 7 so I am at a pressure around 21 most nights. So there you go- mild apnea and very high pressure. Which machine do you have? Most standard CPAP machines will...

Re: Any other "ramp haters?"
I hit my ramp button sometimes if the ipap gets into the twenties and wakes me up. Easier to call back to sleep that way.

Re: First night with a CPAP....ugh
You should have a 30 day window to do a mask exchange. Make an appointment to go the the DME and try out different full face masks using their machine set to the higher end of the pressure range. Put a pillow in your car so that if they don't have one you can test the mask with you head against the ...

Re: Filter Mystery
I'm still trying to think of a solution to this problem. Would it make sense to cut a swatch of plastic window screen to size and then to tape that over the filter, except taping only the edges? I don't believe the screen will affect the performance of the filter unduly. I thought of that, but tape...

Re: feel myself stop breathing
There's nothing like starting cpap therapy to make someone overly conscious of their breathing. And then freaking out. You MAY be experiencing sleep onset centrals, which is absolutely normal - our breathing is controlled differently when awake and asleep, and during the crossover clear airway apnea...

Re: Filter Mystery
I cut a strip of plastic canvas from an old craft project to run a little wider than the full length of the filter, and have it held in place by hair bands that are just narrow enough to fit between the power dial and the ramp and humidifier buttons. That way the bands don't block any of the intake,...
