Re: amazed at this person quitting therapy

I don't think the decision to give up necessarily reflects "bad judgment" -- just a different set of weights on the various factors. A doctor and/or a dentist should be among the first to understand the ramifications of constant, nightly oxygen deprivation - whether they 'feel fine' or not. This se...

Re: I quit EDIT, Trying again

I use a machine similar to yours. Mine is made by Respironics. I also use the Quattro mask. I get that fart-sound from my mask when I sleep on my back. When I sleep on my side I don't get it. The noise (obviously) comes from leaks. The leaks aren't generally enough to disrupt your therapy - just you...

Re: Use Magnesium and Calcium Supplement to Help Breathing

To some degree, you have described Cheyne-Stokes respirations. Were you diagnosed with CSR or some other type of Periodic Breathing?

Re: FREE but used 2 nights Quattro FX Headgear Large

If you give up on the FX, I might be interested in purchasing it from you. One of these days I'd like to try it to see if it works for me. If you get to that point, you can PM me.

Either way,
Thanks,
Tony

Re: Other people in denial about apnea

I know at least 5 people in my close circle of friends who have actually been diagnosed with sleep apnea (one of these guys had an AHI of 46 at his sleep study!) and for one reason or another refuse to use their machines. Most of the reasons to not use them come down to discomfort. I used to try to ...

Re: How often do you conciously wake up each night?

Before Bi-PAP I would wake up to go to the rest room between 2 and 5 times per night. Now I rarely need to go to the rest room even once. I generally sleep very soundly for about 5 hours. Then I tend to toss-and-turn for the next couple of hours. My back tends to bother me and if I try to sleep on m...

Re: I can't fall asleep!

Finally - stay committed to it. There have been lots of good suggestions to try posted in this thread. If you are struggling with this foreign thing, pick one or two and work through the list to see what helps. As has been stated, "your mileage may vary". But the above statement is true for all of ...

Re: I changed the settings on my machine last night...

Since one night does not show a trend, you might choose to leave it for enough nights to give you some working data. This will allow you to test your theory. Since you now know that nothing will explode and that you won't be arrested, you can take the risk for a few extra nights.

Re: ASV data help, please

Tony, I was going to ask you if you have also considered this treatment: •Added dead space or inhaled carbon dioxide: Added dead space by attaching a plastic cylinder of variable volume (400-800 mL) to a tightly fitting mask can act as a source of increased carbon dioxide concentration in the inspi...

Re: ASV data help, please

Thanks for all of your input. As for me, I don't have any neurological issues, as far as I know. Two years ago I saw a neurologist when we first discovered the Cheyne-Stokes. We wanted to see if we could figure out why I have this. The parade of doctors has ruled out congestive heart failure, brain ...

Re: ASV data help, please

Thanks for your reply, John. On the whole, I agree. My doctor does also. It's those clusters in the first hour that have me curious about why they happen. It's not every night. I have wondered whether or not they happen more frequently on nights when I'm unusually tired, but I haven't attempted to t...

Re: ASV data help, please

I tried Photobucket earlier today. For some reason, this image shows up with a green background on Photobucket. It's the exact same image that I uploaded at my Cox site. I don't know why the Cox site image won't show up for you. I'll try again later today when I have more time to play with it. For n...

ASV data help, please

Hello I would appreciate any input regarding a trend in my data lately. To sum up, I use the BiPAP Auto SV to treat Cheyne-Stokes breathing. I am 100% compliant. For several months I have noticed that on many nights (1 or 2 nights per week) I will have a cluster of events during the first hour of sl...

2 year anniversary on BiPap

Hi Two years ago tonight was my first night with my BiPAP ASV (first night if any XPAP). I can't believe that two years have passed. During my first 6 to 8 weeks with my machine I could not imagine EVER being able to sleep "normally" again. I could not imagine ever looking forward to going to bed. I...

Re: No more sleep meds for me !

You might check out this book: Sound Sleep, Sound Mind: 7 Keys to Sleeping Through the Night by Dr. Barry Krakow http://www.amazon.com/Sound-Sleep-Mind-Sleeping-Through/dp/0471650641 I've only read part of it, but I've found some good suggestions there. I bought it based on some recommendations here...
