Bipap with efficacy data?
Bipap with efficacy data?
Hi - just heard from my sleep center that the doc is prescribing a bipap. I really wanted the ResMed S9 AutoSet. Is this a bipap? If not, which one should I get?

Re: Bipap with efficacy data?
I got the Resmed S9 VPAP (VPAP is Resmed's way of saying BiPap) in Jan. I love it. It is so quiet and easy to breathe with that I forget it is there. I have to check the mask exhaust to see that it is still running. I wish I had gotten the auto because it sounds like it would be more fun to play with. But I have been able to fine tune mine (with the forums help) until my AHI averages below 2. I don't know if the auto can mimic a bipap or not. Wiser minds will chime in.
Welcome to the adventure. Good sleep and good health to you.

I looked it up on cpap.com and the ResMed S9 VPAP Auto is ResMed's version of bipap.

I am sure you will be happy with that one. You can let it adjust the pressure every night or use the auto part to find your best pressure and set it to those numbers. A very versatile machine.jen4700 wrote:I looked it up on cpap.com and the ResMed S9 VPAP Auto is ResMed's version of bipap.

Re: Bipap with efficacy data?
I happen to have one of each...
They aren't exactly the same in how they do a few things and the algorithms are different.
One of the main differences is the roaming pressure support in the PR 1 vs the fixed pressure support in the VPAP when running in Auto mode.
Pros and cons to each. I actually do very well on both but I like the pressure support that I get while awake in auto mode....better on the VPAP. It is a silly little thing but I figure I want to have it suit me the best that I can. Therapy treatment....they are pretty much equal. While there may be a few people who might do better with one brand over another...I suspect that most of us would do well with either.
I have written some of my reflections here...page 3 and 4 especially about the 2 machines.
