autopap pressure range

Post by tjs » Thu Jan 06, 2005 7:29 pm

I am picking up my new autopap tomorrow (Remstar Auto with c-flex). I was told the pressure would be set at 6-20. My CPAP pressure is 8. During a trial period on the autopap a couple of months ago my high pressure was 10.2 with a mean pressure of 6.6. I recall reading that there could be problems with the high end of the pressure range being set too high. What kind of problems can this cause? I would like to be armed with some information so I can discuss this with the RRT or doctor, if necessary. Thanks.

If your going to be using the unit in Auto mode, you don't need to worry about it. The CPAP will only give you the pressure you need.

If using it in fixed mode, I believe one of the problems is that you can begin to swallow the air and become quite painfully bloated if it is set too high.
