Apap on 17 pressure

Post by galinha » Mon Mar 06, 2006 7:17 am

Hello :

I have a goodknight 420 E . Using apap ( auto Cpap ) with pressures from 4 to 20.
Recently i wake in the morning with 17 of pressure. I stay waked with mask on and the pressure stills on 17....

Is this normal or when i wake the pressure should go to 4 ?

This can be a incompatibility with the Goodknight and my mirage swift ?

Thanks a Lot.

Luis.

Luis,

Did you have a DME configure your equipment or are you configuring it yourself? The 4-20 cm H2O range you listed is common for a lot of CPAP equipment. However, you typically set a scale in the "ballpark" of your last titration study at a sleep lab or based on analysis of your our therapy through a card reader, smart card and software.

If you are awake and notice the machine is operating at 17 cm H2O, I would guess that someone you have configured the APAP minimum scale at 17 cm H2O instead of perhaps a lower setting when apneas are NOT present. It's easy to get the menus confused on some of the setups for some equipment. I suggest you get help from your DME (if needed) or reconfigure your menus and make sure you're setting a range where the minimum is say 13 and the maximum 19 on your machine.

After reconfiguring the setup, you should note the machine operating at the lowest end of your scale until apneas are present (but you'll miss that setting as you'll be asleep ), but hopefully, you'll note it through the software monitoring.

I think you just have a simple case of "borked" setup on your pressure settings that need another "tweak."

Good luck!

Luis, what was your titrated pressure?

Your auto should initially be configured about 2 below and 2 above your titrated pressure.

Example: my titrated pressure was 7. My initial auto settings were minimum of 5 and maximum of 9.

You need to get your DME to narrow the range of your machine.

Luis, you wrote in a previous post that your pressure was 8.

So, your machine should probably be set at 6 to 10-12. You should NOT have it set from 4 to 20...

You probably had an error when you woke up at 17 - maybe your hose was bent or something.

It is not incompatibility between the machine and the mask.

Hi Luis

It is normal for the pressure to stay higher when we wake up. The machine does not take the pressure down immediately.

It is not an incompatibility with your mask.

Can you tell us what pressure the doctor gave you?

Who set your machine on 4 - 20?

I remember you asked about Silverlining - but you must be sure you understand everything before you change your own pressure.

Do you understand one of the other languages in the Silverlining instructions?
O.
