Face Flushed and warm

Post by elizabethmsmith » Fri Dec 23, 2011 11:49 am

1st night with CPAP: About a half-hour after taking off the mask, my entire face slowly started flushing and getting warm and stayed that way for most of the morning.

2nd night: I fell asleep before I remembered to put it on, and my face never got flushed or warm.

3rd night (last night): Same as 1st night - my face is flushed and warm.

My CPAP technician said this is a new symptom she hasn't dealt with yet. Only thing she could think of was that the combination of my blood pressure medicine and the fact that my CPAP helps with blood pressure was that it was affecting my BP too much. So, I will have my BP checked.

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and how long it lasted?

Be sure that you are not allergic to anything on the mask

It's always a good idea to wash the mask cushion (preferably the whole mask)
before use--even if it was in a sealed package, brand new.
None of us have seen what that factory looks like--and we might not want to.

Could it be that you now feel so good you are blushing from embarrassment????

Yes, that sounds like something I have experienced when I come in contact with things I am allergic to or hypersensitive to. As chunkyfrog said, washing the mask before use is a very good idea. I soak my new masks and headgear for a few hours in unscented hypoallergenic soapy water and let them air dry before using them.

You can also use a mask liner...see padacheeks.com..Karen is a member here. You can make one in a hurry using a well washed cotton t-shirt. Just lay your mask on the shirt, draw the outline but add about 3/4 of an inch all way around. Cut the pattern out and cut a hole for your nose and mouth...voila you have a liner for tonight. Silicone does not touch my face or within a day or two I have a lovely red rash where the mask sits. Take a look at Remzzs.com they also make liners but I am really partial to the ones Karen makes as they will last a long time and wash easily.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I had ruled out any allergic reaction, because the flushing does not happen the entire time I'm wearing the mask, only after about a half-hour after taking it off. Happened again this morning.

Hmmm. Sounds like the mask prevents flushing not causes flushing.

Would you consider wearing it all day?

I have the exact same issue! I assumed it had something to do with being more oxygenated than before or something. Im a pretty blushy, rosy-cheeked person anyway but I notice a distinct increase in the mornings after I use CPAP which doesn't happen if I forget to use it.
