Only 4 hrs?

Post by LinkC » Fri Jan 18, 2019 4:51 pm

My respiratory tech said if I wake up, I could go off CPAP as long as I get at least 4hrs a night.

Anyone heard of that?

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

They are talking about meeting compliance for insurance purposes.

If the Sleep tech shared this with you in the context of meeting insurance needs they are correct.
If the context was to meet medical needs they are wrong.

I suppose this is your first XPAP machine and this is your first night. His lips moved didn't they, that's a sure sign, maybe he was trained by a DME! Jim

That's STUPID ! Your Respiratory tech should be a plumber. Was this a new machine that you needed to prove compliance.

Is that tech listed as a beneficiary on your life insurance policy?

AAAAAND this is another sterling reason to take *everything* that RTs (and DMEs) with a grain of salt.

Don't trust, verify.

I think that's the disconnect. A bit confusing...

Absolutely.

They need to make it perfectly clear that the 4 hour compliance needs for insurance are for just that insurance. And that the compliance for health reasons are now 100%.

The ideal is the entire time that you're sleeping. Four hours will generally keep you insurance (and/or your employer) happy, but it's far from ideal.

Thanks D.H.

Finally a rational and helpful response.
