Another "scam"?
Another "scam"?
I got an unusual Christmas gift.
It's a "Phonesoap" unit. You put your cellphone in it overnight, and they claim it will kill germs overnight. It DOES have an impressive blacklight tube in the lid, tho. Sound familiar? LOL
Anything legitimate to this? Does "SoClean" ring a bell?

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.

Re: Another "scam"?
Maybe, UVC does kill germs.
However, it's not *necessary* to sanitize your phone, anymore than it's necessary to sanitize your cpap.
Most of the germs that are on your phone are *your* germs, (well, yours and whatever rugs rats around your house that you've let play with your phone).

UVC is LIGHT.
Noclean is OZONE.
Very different.
Ozone is STINKY--light has no smell at all.
Neither is assured to do anything at all, but you waste less money on the lower priced item.

Re: Another "scam"?
I don't believe it's a 'scam' per se. However, any 'SoClean', 'VirtuCLEAN', or similar ozone producing unit, however marketed or advertised, is a health risk - especially with any type of auto-immune, compromised respiratory, or infection related issues.
Anyone who uses any 'add-on' or parasitic medical devices without the specific endorsement or recommendation of the CPAP manufacturer could void their CPAP warranty or worse be exposing the user to infection or chemical inhalation danger. Also there is little if any published information on what the short or long term effects of ozone is on the CPAP internal components such as valves, diaphragms, or hoses. Ozone is clearly a dangerous gas (US EPA) that could be a health hazard even in minuscule amounts in confined spaces such as a bedroom.
Add to this the issue of counterfeit consumable coming from the far east, and the lack of a published risk analysis by any of these manufacturers - it is a perfect storm for trouble. Personally I believe hand cleaning your device regularly (as recommended by the CPAP manufacturers) is the safest approach. Imported cheap "convenient store medical devices" or "magic fixes" may not be the answer. I would recommend caution.

A whole lot of investigation is ongoing before I spend a single dime.
Re: Another "scam"?
Thanks! The unit is basically two UV lights, that will kill germs. Period.
But, then, how germy is the average cell phone? I'd worry more about the germs on the change in my pocket or purse. Talk about germs!!
And his thing IS a convenient phone charging station (with pretty lights...)

Re: Another "scam"?
Evvective UV treatment produces more heat than your phone should endure.
This means the phonesoap is either too weak to work or it will eventually
KILL YOUR PHONE.
