Re: OT?? The flu and its rather dramatic affect on my AHI

Glad you're feeling a bit better RobySue. I hope you make a rapid and full recovery.

I am just recovering from a Sinusitus infection. It is seriously not fun, especially on CPAP.

Re: OT: Drugs for Migraines

I used to get migraines a fair bit. I tried Imitrex and it worked really well, but I did not like the side effects. It just made my head feel weird. I was most likely to get mine on weekends and almost certainly on the first or second day of a holiday. They were a two day affair: the first was a day...

Re: Any recent Colonoscopy participants here?

I had my first one last week. I made very sure at every step of the process that everyone involved knew I had sleep apnea. I was put under a full anesthetic, instead of the don't care drug, with an anesthetist present. I also have pretty severe claustrophobia which they also knew about. They put me ...

Re: list for traveling with CPAP....what have I forgotten?

EDIT2 = PS - Do NOT forget to empty the humidifier BEFORE packing each time. The stress and rush of travel often takes it's toll there. So add that to your checklist. Should you forget, simply do NOT power on the machine until it is completely dry. That can be a couple days, no doubt but if you do ...

Re: I now see why you need a backup mask.

I needed a chin strap to stop myself mouth breathing. Much more pleasant (for me) and safer than taping.

A pleasant side effect is that it helps stabilize my mask. So perhaps I don't need the chin strap to stop mouth breathing any more, but I'm not tempted to find out.

Re: New user, tips??

This whole sleeping with the mask and hose and air blasting at you is a strange new thing. You haven't slept this way before, ever. Your subconscious probably still hasn't accepted it fully, so you're not sleeping as deeply as you were. Also, when stuff happens, your autopilot doesn't know what to d...

Unfortunately not. I was hoping CPAP therapy would help and perhaps it has a little, but not a lot. I had a test for RA but that was negative. Just last week my doctor recommended I see a specialist.

Re: An Old Noobie needs some advice

Runny nose, cough etc. could be because your humidifier isn't set right for you. I get those symptoms if my humidification setting is too low. The more you keep your mask on, the easier it becomes to keep your mask on. Ideally you should wear it every time your sleep or nap. If you can't keep it on,...

Always carry it on. Baggage handlers are experts at transferring bags using minimal effort. This often appears extremely similar to dropping. It is not compatible with precision medical equipment. Usually there's no problem with security at the big airports. Houston for example has seen a zillion of...

Re: New User in Baltimore

Hi k3roj and welcome to the forum. If we knew what kind of mask you have, people with knowledge of that mask would offer some pointers. Rather than have to repeat it all the time, it would be very helpful if you could put your equipment in your profile and have it display automatically in your signa...

Re: Horrible experience

Gastric bypass sounds very similar to what my father got after he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. His life afterwards was exactly as robysue described. Why anyone would voluntarily undergo such a procedure is beyond my comprehension. And thinking that that is better than CPAP?? Utterly crazy.

Please double and triple that check you get an actual Autoset and not some "we don't have any Autosets, but take this" Auto Escape.

Re: Second night was horrible

Put on the chin strap and started the stopwatch. Within two minutes I am struggling with this. I feel like I am not getting enough air and I have to focus on not breathing via mouth. I think my right nostril is restricted somehow. The doctor mentioned it was a little inflamed or something. After ju...

Re: Horrible experience

It won't be as bad at home. Also, you might like to wear it a bit around the house while awake reading / watching TV so you start to get more used to it. You haven't slept with a mask on your face most of your life and it takes a while for your subconscious to accept it and let you get a deep sleep....

Re: Newto the cpap. I need help

Ditto to what the others have said above. If you're already sleeping all night with the mask on you are doing better than a lot of people. That's great, hang in there. If you're paying back sleep debt and feel you need a daytime nap, take it if you can, but ALWAYS wear your mask when napping or slee...
