XPAP wedding/honeymoon

Post by the_nap_ster » Sat Jun 23, 2012 9:44 am

Hi all,

So the engineer and I tied the knot last weekend. We're from Los Angeles, but we got married in Arlington, VA (a central point for east coast family members), and then honeymooned by playing tourist in the Pittsburgh area (where my sweetie is from). Here are the XPAP-related highlights!

We've got flying with XPAPs down to a science -- whoever gave the tip about putting your machine in a ziplock inside the case is a genius. They kept security's grimy hands off our equipment.

The night before, we saw our uncle looking tired and miserable. When we asked him what was going on, he said he got no sleep. He's a CPAP wearer, and forgot to check the contents of his travel case. He had his machine, but no hose or mask! No problem. We packed extras.

You east coasters deal with humidity that we west coasters know nothing about. The first night, I forgot to adjust the settings on my humidifier. That was not a good night. Both of us ended up not using our humidifiers at all. Next time I travel to a place with a very different climate, I am going to at least try to adjust my humidifier accordingly.

I learned that Bella Loops are amazing if you're sleeping with curlers in your hair.

On our wedding night, before we got back to the hotel, our friends snuck into our room and set up a chilled bottle of champagne, a little picnic, and flowers. And they decorated each of our matching S9s.

All in all, it was an awesome time, and not only did having our XPAPs allow us to sleep well, having extra equipment allowed us to help out a very dear family member.

Congratulations!
Humidity can sure be a pain.
Some of the weather channels broadcast ski and surf reports; why not cpap reports?

Congratulations napster!! May your days be long and fulfilling!

Good reminder about the ziploc bags! Did you have to take the machines out of the carrying bag? Oh, that is going to be a pain in the tush if masks, hoses and extension cords in the bag too. Hmmm, may have to rethink this. How gratifying you had enough spares to help your dear relative. Even with the humidity issues, it sounds like you had a super time. I'm happy for you!

Suz

Mazel tov!

I was so afraid this was going to be one of those whiney "how can I possibly go on a honeymoon with CPAP?" posts. So glad to see it was not. I predict a long healthy life together.

I use the humidifier every night too in very humid Florida. Even though our humidity is a killer, the AC keeps the house dry.

When both my husband &i were diagnosed with OSA, another CPAPer said: "you'll be together forever". Having a mate to share this struggle is such a bonus.

Congratulations on the wedding, honeymoon and positive attitudes! Your story is so refreshing. Wishing you many years of wedded bliss. My husband and I both use S9's and we are so much happier and healthier with a good night's sleep.
